Porting and Keeping Landline

Post by PainCourt »

I was wondering if I can get some help and direction on how to proceed with porting my number but keeping the landline.

Here is my situation ... I have an emergency system connected to my sump pump, that will call and notify me through my cell (and 4 other people if I am not available) that the sump pump has malfunction or that the power is out. I am planning to port my number, but keep the landline (on basic service) just for the sump pump (trust me, this emergency system has saved our basement from flooding twice. We live in an area where the water table is quite high).

I understand that once the porting is complete, my landline will have no dialtone. Does this mean that Bell has cancel my landline (I got different answer on from this forum)? Is there a way to notify Bell so that that don't cancel the landline but give me a new number when the porting process is complete.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Call Bell and add Identa-Call. That will add a second number to your phone line and then port that number to FPL. Identa-Call is $8,95 more per month.

callopsitte ... Thank you! Have you done this already? I'm just curious if Bell will keep my account live and if I can switch the Identa Call number as the main number?

I'm in the process of doing it... Bell has giving me some trouble getting the number I want for Identa-call. Should have exactly what I want (number) by tomorrow.

I don't know for you as you seem to want to port your main number. I first called Bell and asked if a Identa-call was portable for which they said "yes". But switching your main number for Identa-call that I would call first.

callopsitte ... just got off the phone with Bell and it was possible to switch the main number with the Identa-Call number. This way, I can still port the number I want and will not affect my line.
