I've been getting choppy audio, incoming and outgoing, for the last couple of days. My wife has been complaining for the last couple of days that the phone is almost un-usable.

Seems to have cleared up today, weird it was messing up for about 2 days. If it does it again I'll use that test on the previous message to see if it is Bell messing up.

Glad to hear things got "fixed"! I have that problem sometimes too and realized it had nothing to do with my equipment at all. I know there are reasons behind why it all happens, but honestly it's more of "luck" thing with me. Do you know if that website helped visualize the problem much? It looks neat to me and gotta try it out myself!

I notice usually it is the upstream audio that suffers from the most jitter. If you are using the g,729 codec, 30 ms or less causes me few problems. the g.711 ulaw codec is a lot less tolerant to jitter.
Using a good router does help with the quality, but it is usually the ISP that is at fault. Though it could possibly be bad wiring as a cause, I strongly suspect the ISP's traffic shaping software is to blame, but I certainly will not get a straight answer from the ISP.

I agree. get yourself a good router.
I was using D-Link DIR655. It is OK
Now, I switch to Draytek Vigor 2130n. It is much faster than D-Link DIR655. It is a big help on VoIP

First off, the phone line quality seems pretty good now, just a temporary glitch I guess. My modem and router are a 1 piece item from bell. We are looking at switching over to Cable in the near future and will be needing a good wireless router with ports for 2 phone lines as well as my PC and laptop, my daughter is moving back in and we'll need 2 phone numbers then as well.
