Dialpad not working when dialing extensions

Post by rfkennedy »

Hi,

When using Groundwire by Acrobits (a softphone for the iPhone), the dialpad doesn't work after the call is connected and an automated system asks me to push keys.

Below is the response that I got from Acrobits:

We noticed a couple of things in the log. First, it looks like your provider does not support rfc 2833. This isn't really good. This is the most reliable and most common method used. It does look like they support SIP Info, but they don't seem to respond when we send it. We don't see if they support audio or not, but audio will probably only work with G.711 ulaw (it looks like you use g.729 in the log, audio won't work with any codec that compresses the audio in any way).

It does look like there is some issue, but it looks like the issue is on the provider's side, not with Groundwire.

Any advice on how I can get the dialpad to work?

Thanks,
Robert,
Toronto

Pray! ...okay and maybe some other stuff too...
I don't use Acrobits or whatever so you'll have to wait for somebody else to chime in, or better yet, just try a few things yourself. DTMF is tricky with VoIP with many possibilities, as are codecs. I've read online somebody experimenting with this. Here's what I remember (ymmv): Freephoneline recommends using g.729 which works well enough and apparently rfc2833 is supported, Freephoneline will also support G.711 which has better audio quality but no luck with rfc2833 - use inband instead.

Play around with it and see what happens. Have you seen if there are any configurations posted in the Device Configuration forum?

are you using it over wifi or 3G?
I have tried it over wifi , and for some calls it works, and doesn't for others.

For instance, if you call *98 (voicemail), it works fine on my iphone (with Acrobits)...but there are cases where it doesn't work. not sure what the real issue is.
