Sleeping computer kills FPL

Post by CartoonChess »

Hello,

I am running the Mac version of FPL and have noticed a problem. If the computer is put to sleep while FPL is running, calling the FPL number results in prolonged silence, followed by disconnection (quickly paced busy signal). The number never rings, nor does it go to voicemail.

When a computer sleeps, it's sometimes as good as being powered off... and if your computer isn't on, there isn't anything ready to receive the call. Some ideas for you:
1) Disable your computer from automatically sleeping
2) Purchase the config file - use an external ATA/VoIP phone

But what's unusual about this is that voicemail doesn't pick up the call. If I quit FPL, any call to the number goes straight to voicemail. The only time the call fails is if the computer has been put to sleep without quitting FPL first.

This is most likely because when you put your computer to sleep it's not sending the regular SIP Deregister message that closing the application does, in which case whoever is calling keeps ringing, and ringing, and ringing until it either times out or they get tired of hearing it ring. Also, there is nothing in the program to 'Wake up if incoming call is present' thus continuing the constant ringing and/or busy tones.

Even if there was no deregister sent - shouldn't voicemail still kick in after 30 seconds?

Okay, that makes sense. Does the FPL service request any sort of keep-alive message occasionally? Or, without a deregister message, would the line be left in a perpetual state of fault?

In my case, voicemail never has a chance because the call doesn't seem to connect (no ringing).

Not if the server things the phone is registered but no ACK message is received from the invite, it would time out and cancel the request.

In that case, what is the best way to put in a feature request for deregistration on sleep?
