When I am trying to access VM from Softphone

I get
'The number is invalid" error message.
I was wondering if I have sip settings and dial *98 would I get the same error?
Dialing local VM access works but it seems inefficient and requires typing phone # and password.
Another issue, if softphone is running and is not used to make calls, dialing associated to it FPL number
from another phone gives busy signal right away, not even going to VM.
First it should not be busy.
Second if it were busy the call should go to VM, as it was set in account settings.
Tried twice.
