Hi,
I'm considering getting a Linksys SPA2102 adaptor for the VOIP. I'm still confuse on the setup between SPA2102 and router as some of the information I get from other forum discussions are different. I tried to get it here but still cannot find one.
I would appreciate if someone would let me know which setup are correct and being used.
1) Phone line --> modem --> router (Linksys E3000) --> SPA2102 --> phone
or
2) Phone line --> modem --> SPA2102 --> router (Linksys E3000) --> phone
Thanks.

The other option could also work, but the SPA2102 is not a very good router. i would be happier if you switch the firmware to DD-WRT, but I suppose the default firmware will do.

Re: SPA2102 connection to router
The SPA2102 is good enough as a SIP ATA, it is just that it's router is not very good. It is after all 6 year old technology. For the router, I find most will do the job, it is just that a lot of them have awful firmware. So, if you can get a router that can also be flashed with a decent 3rd party open source firmware such as DD-WRT, that is a good router.

Re: SPA2102 connection to router
I'm ok with SPA2102 used as a SIP ATA as I already have Linksys E3000 as a router. Reason of using SPA2102 is when I'm travelling to another place without my E3000. Can I flash SPA2102 with DD-WRT? Can't find the firmware from DD-WRT site.

Re: SPA2102 connection to router
No, you generally cannot flash third party firmware on combo units, just certain routers. The E3000 can be flashed with DD-WRT, though I believe the stock firmware is already pretty good. The stock router firmware that comes with the SPA2102 should do if you are in a pinch, it is just that the configuration options are more limited if something is not working the way it should.
