number portability was quick

Post by ppmt »

I am happy....

I phone last week (16/09) to get my number ported and a today (24/09) I got an email to tell me it is ported.

I reconfigured my system and here we are my number is up and running.....

WELL DONE....especially as I was told it would take 3 to 4 weeks.

I guess now I can call my old provider to cancel my subscription with them, Right?

Awesome news! I'm thinking up some new ways to make LNP quicker so we can say "24 - 48hrs (when you get all the forms signed)", so far it's a good start but I need more time to really make it into a GREAT idea!

Hi,

I don't know what everyone else experience was but here is my 2 cents

When I called to start up the process I was told it takes 3 to 4 weeks...I know from sources that in Canada there is no way it should take that long and the average is more like a week.
So I know you are trying to cover yourself in case something goes wrong but you should try to find out what is the average time it takes you to port a number and start advertising more accurate
dates.

Also when I send you the LOA by email. I didn't receive any replies confirming that the email reach you. It is not reassuring as you end up not knowing if the LOA was ever received...couple it with the
fact you advertise 3/4 week to port and you can potentially end with a disgruntled customer who wasted 4 weeks (a month worse of billing!)

Still as I said I am happy how it turns out for me ;)

edit: fix some typos

Few days ago, I called customers service to port my number, thinking that the price will be as described on website (19.95) because I want use this service only with softfone. I tried 2 times, because I was not sure about the answer that I got but at each time the representative told me that I have to pay $50. for the config even I dont expect use any ATA. Then why price on website is not $69.95 ? That mean if I buy config, price is $19. and if not is $69. ? Thank for explications.

1. Porting itself is $19.95.
2. When you port your number it actually deactivates the software phone (You are told this upon the request).
3. $50 for the configuration file is because you would need to configure an ATA - Which is an additional $79.00 if you purchase from us.
4. Yes you are correct we should advertise ALL possible avenues on the site

Thanks for your input, the site should be updated and more straight forward soon enough, sorry for the confusion.

So if I correctly understand, once the porting is done, your softphone is no longer available for the ported number. How about using another softphone with the ported number ? Is it possible ? Is the initial number that FPL gave us before porting still work ? Will this number still work with your softphone ?

Once you port, it replaces your original freephoneline number, since our softphone constantly communicates with the servers, there are some issues when the number is suddenly changed.

ie. The server see's all the correct passwords, addresses, SIP settings but not the phone number.

It may work with another softphone, yes.

OK, so your softphone will not work with the ported number. But how about the web interface with the followme service, the mailbox, etc ? Will I be able to use the followme service with the ported number ?

when I asked for the number portability service, I was asked to register with FPL first and they gave me a FPL number. My number should be ported in a second step. I am wondering if the initial number that FPL gave me will still be in use after the portability. I gave the FPL number to several people. What I want to know is what is going to happen when the people will call my FPL number, once the portability is done.

The FPL number is simply a temporary number for you to use the service while porting is underway. It will be wiped when your porting completes.
