Rogers Home Phone callee often can't hear me

Post by user451 »

Most times when I call my parents who have a Rogers home phone I can hear them however they can not hear me. After trying a few times I call my cell and hear both sides of the conversation. After several tries it may start working but I usually have a problem when I try calling, On the other hand they can call me without issue.

Has any one else experienced this odd behaviour? Also they see my number but the CNAM is not shown.

Thanks

Rogers phone is in fact VoIP somewhat like FPL. My guess is the problem is on their end espêcially if you call elswhere without any problem. So I would advise them to call rogers and mention the problem with your phone number hoping they will find a solution.

As for CNAM it has been discussed many times on this forum. To make it short FPL allows it but CNAM for VoIP, as I understood it, needs to pass through a third party to be fully resolved and that third party cost a lot of money that FPL and some other VoIP providers prefer not to invest in so they can offer us this great service at a low cost ($50,00 one time fee).

To resume your number will always appear on others call display but name sometimes will and sometimes won't unless the party you're calling programs it in their phone :)

Sure Rogers is VOIP heck bell could be voip, well it is at least digitized likley at the CO. Rogers home phone service is very similar to Bell in one sense as they do full CNAM. The CNAM thing is not a major problem.

As for not hearing callers I am the only caller they seem to have this problem with and only since I ported to FPL.

Freephoneline.ca sends both the CID and CNAM of the caller, but only from our servers. We do not do any full CNAM dips into NPAC for caller information.

user451, please PM me your freephoneline.ca number you're having issues with and I'll take a look at some logs and hopefully resolve this issue relatively quickly for you.

The problem may have been because I had outbound proxy enabled. Once disabled, CNAM worked and they could hear me. Still odd the issue only affected their Rogers Home Phone number

Strange that problem started up again only this time the first call they do not see my name only number and can not hear me, when I hang up and call back they see out name and number. This occurred the last 2 times I called them. No changes have been made to my ATA or Router

Thanks

user451, would you be able to try some test calls again? I've made some changes to your number and pulled up a 'before' log and would like to have an 'after' for comparison.

Hi Kris

Seems I can call other Rogers Home phone numbers in different area codes without issue, perhaps this is an exchange specific issue? Another user noted a similar issue calling Winnipeg.

It would seem odd if it was only specific exchanges but I suppose anything is possible. Do you know what their setup is like on their end? Maybe you can see if there's anything different that might help explain what's going on. If it's specific and repeatable, perhaps you can pm Kris (admin) or Steve (fpl-steve) with specific call details and they can see if it's something on their end.

It's all odd. Kris was PM'd call details last Friday and I am waiting for an update

Seems to be the only number with the issue, they have no issues with other callers, I have no issues with other numbers. So it's not likely setup on either end. Also we have another user reporting a similar issue calling Winnipeg.

user451 could you please attempt to call again.

It seem our platform upgrade had reverted the proxy I set up for your outbound calls. I have set up a new proxy again.

I get the exact same problem, but calling a rogers wireless customer. I have to make like 3-4 calls to get one where we can both hear each other. Other party usually can't hear me but I can hear them (I'm making the outbound call).

Tried calling 4 or 5 times last night, without success, had to give up and use the Cell long distance (OUCH)

The issue started occurring again after the last system upgrade

After seeing several posts with similar issues another common link is the Linksys SPA or PAP2 are being used could this be an ATA or firmware specific issue?

Before the SPA2102 was purchased the Obi100 and the Grandstream HT502 had interested me.

I had a call like this but I think it was the other ends problem. I called Capital One and was able to go through the menu and enter my account number fine but when I got to the service rep. They couldn't hear me but I could hear them. In the end I called them back and got another service rep that did hear me. I don't think this one incidence has anything this but I thought I would chim in.

This problem occurs on most calls to only the problem number, calling from cell or another phone has no problem..

Lately I just hang up and call again and get through on the 2nd call. Still wondering if it's an odd SPA2102 issue

It could be a device issue, and it could also be due to your internet service provider. If you make sure to open the UDP ports in firewall settings, it should work. If not, I would try to reconfigure your ATA device, try a power cycle (disconnect your modem/router and ATA for a couple of minutes). You may also have to try to factory reset your ATA, but the best way to try and figure out if it is an issue with the ATA or the firewall settings, you can try to connect the ATA to another internet connection to see if you have any more sound issues. Thanks

Hi Lauren

Only this one number is affected and the problem comes and goes, every other number works without issue.
All the above has been done, including bypassing the firewall and placing the ATA in the DMZ. Again only one number is ever affected
