Incoming calls- I can not hear, they can hear me

Post by new936 »

Hi,

Since the last maintenance at freephonline 3 weeks ago, I have a strange problem. Many of my incoming calls, I can not hear them, but they can hear me. They have to call me at least 3 times only then I can hear them.

I have freephonline with Linksys ATA for almost a year and half, I never had this problem except with one friend with Freephoneline and Freephonline adaptor and D-link Routers. With them when I call they can not hear me for first call. I have to call them again and then they hear me. This one we were used to it :) , but now with many calls, it is a problem!

I have had the same thing happen.
I noticed it towards the end of last week (though I haven't been using my phone much before then).

Had it just happen again today too.
Both ends are on FPL using ATA devices, and have been for at least a year or so, nothing has changed in either of our setups.

Normally it was my end that I couldn't hear them when they called me, but this time it was when I called them they couldn't hear me but I could hear them.

Turn off your router, and modem, the computer/ATA also. wait 15 seconds, then turn on modem, wait another 20 seconds, and turn on router. then turn on computer/ATA 30 seconds after that. Problem should be temporarily fixed.

The problem is that the router forgets where to send the audio, and needs a reset to start again. Real solutions would be to map ports to the ATA or computer, and getting a better router or better firmware.

Thanks bridonca.

That's not the issue though.
I have ports mapped and my routers restarts itself nightly. I'm running dd-wrt as well...

It's something that has just started recently.
The other end that I'm talking to is a different router too.

This just happened again today.
August 11th 2011, 12:43pm.

FPL to FPL (FPL to other phone has never been an issue and still isn't)
both ends using PAP2T's

nothing has changed on either end in the past few months (I manage both of them)

Steve, I PM'd you the two FPL phone numbers involved.

Same thing has started again! I can not hear incoming calls for the first time! I have to say that "I can not hear you, please call me again"

I have reset modem, router and ATA many times but no improvement.

These problems are most probably cause by incorrectly configured routers/ATAs and/or non working port forwarding as well as possibly the problem existing with the person that you are calling if they happen to also use voip/SIP. Without knowing exactly how your modem/router/ATA is configured it is very difficult to offer you any useful help and even with that with the device configuration that you have, there may be no easy solution.

You have errors in the configuration.

For this minimum RTP port you have what appear to be the SIP ports. For the SIP port you have a range of ports on it should be only one port 5060 or 5061 UDP.
This could be what is causing your problem.
