Port FPL number to Fido

I have a FPL account with the config file. Is it possible at all to port the FPL number to Rogers/Fido?

I do not think so. You can easily forward the Freephoneline number to Rogers/FIDO rather easily. Not the same, I admit, but not the worst solution either.

You would have to contact Rogers/Fido to see if they will charge you for any porting fees, but it is possible to take a phone number from Freephoneline and bring it to another provider, just like you can take one from the provider and bring it to freephoneline.

That is great news! Is this a new development? In any case it is welcome. I have no idea why anyone would want to port their Freephoneline number, but nice to know the option exists!

I would not think that it is a *new* development, per se, as when full number portability was foisted upon Canada, I believe that any company that ACCEPTED (ie ported IN) numbers also had to DONATE (port OUT). FPL may not have advertised this, but I am almost certain that it was a CRTC requirement. I will attempt to look this up on the CRTC website and see if I can cite the relevant rules and regulations to you.

As for reasons as to WHY someone would port-OUT from FPL, having a good number may be the reason. I know that I certainly managed to land a really cool Vancouver-based number on my 3rd try when I was initially selecting numbers and IMMEDIATELY pounced on it ....

There is a way you can actually take the 'luck' out of getting a good FPL number.
