can't call 438-828-xxxx, Montreal should be free

Post by jason1416 »

I Have a friend moved to Montreal and got a Montreal phone number, 438-828-xxxx, My freephone line phone can call 514-xxx-xxxx for free but not 438-828-xxxx, I know 438 is a overlay code for 514 in Montreal just like 647 to 416 in toronto .

Thanks

I would report this to one of the admins or contact FPL directly via email. You are correct and 438-828 is a Montreal, QC exchange, probably a new one. I find it to be Telus Mobility.

It is probably just an oversight on the part of the person that controls the tariffs, and should usually be fixed quickly. Usually I would say to PM Steve, but I think he is off. Try PM'ing admin (Kris).

I have opened a ticket to get one of our senior techs to add this to the tarriff plan. We are looking in to the situation and you will be able to call that location soon. Steve is currently on Vacation, and Kris no longer monitors the forum as he has switched departments, but we do have representatives checking the forum from time to time. I can be PM'd if anyone has any issues at all. Thanks

AFAIK, it is usually a pretty quick turn around, once the right person is contacted to check the tariffs. New exchanges are particularly susceptible to being "missed". I am actually surprised that it is not yet rectified. The 'call checker' part of the website still shows it as a non-free call, and it also fails when I try it with a zero balance.

Hopefully Lauren will get it to the right people and it will be resolved quickly.

The area code 438 has now been added to the tariff plan and you guys will be able to place those calls. I did my best to make it go as fast as possible :) Thanks guys.

438-828-xxxx shows up FREE in the 'check rate' page

Post by TheHardy »

Thanks Lauren. I just confirmed via the rate-check page that the above prefix is now zero rated. It was not yesterday at the time I posted, so this would seem to indicate that it indeed has been corrected by the tariff department... (not that I doubted you, just that sometimes there is a disconnect between departments).

Brings up a question -- is the "tariff-table" that the website uses (http://www.freephoneline.ca/ldServices) the ACTUAL database that the switching department uses to rate the calls as free or chargeable??? Or are they two separate and distinct entities which are just more or less 'matched' to each other?

Thanks for confirming that it works for you now Jason1416. Steve and Lauren (and Kris when he lurks!) seem to be fairly responsive to this sort of thing, which is really good. The downside is, that these problems DO seem to happen fairly frequently with newer NPA-NXX's ... my suggestion would be that someone within the tariff department should perhaps monitor the CNAC.CA website and keep an eye on the new exchanges as they pop up for the ratecentres to which FPL provides free calling.

Not really that hard, about once a week, hit each of the NPA's and just search for "ASSIGNED". Alternately, I know that Telecordia in the states does publish MONTHLY update files for new pending exchanges, but this is a subscription paid service -- although, I can see that Fibernetics MAY want to actually pay to be up-to-date, rather than try to do something free or on the cheap! :-)

Just my two cents....
