Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
Hi,
I am a new freephoneline user, and when I log in I see that the freephone line application has already registered, however I cannot find it.
I think I have checked all the menus on the website but I can't find the application.
Where is it?
Maybe I'm dumb, but can someone please give me clear directions on where the application can be downloaded? I tried both being logged in and not logged in. I also noticed that once you log in a lot of options disappear (such as Contact Us...)
So where should I go after I get to http://freephoneline.ca ?

This may be somewhat obvious but ...
http://www.freephoneline.ca/download
There you can choose Mac or Windows.
Direct link for Windows software: http://media1.freephoneline.ca/download ... neline.exe

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
Thanks for the obvious, but apprently I had to "GUESS" that that would be the address.
I still cannot find any link to that address on the main page or any other page.
I find this peculiar, how come there is no "download" button?
How did YOU find it? Google?

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
Well you do have a fairly good point. It is there, and used to be a little more obvious, but now it has changed a bit with the latest version of the site.
I expect the option to download the softphone is presented to a new user as they register, or just after they complete the registration - which is all fine and dandy. But what about people who need to re-download the softphone. There is a link at the top of this page https://www.freephoneline.ca/update911Info - once you have logged in click on the settings link and the link is just below the header image.
There should be direct download links in the footer of each page I would suggest, or at least a re-download link on the initial registration page for people to find easier.

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
I went a much simpler route to find it, from the main home page, scrolled down to the bottom, hit SITE MAP and then found DOWNLOAD. All in all a simple operation.
You are correct though as to the registration, I think it comes up after step-1, it brings you to a window to download it.
As far as making it easier to find on the website, I give that full marks as well ... not to mention my other "make-over" suggetions.
And Alecz20, I did not mean to IMPLY that it was your error in not finding it -- I simply forgot that when I had registered that I was led right to it; when I went back to find it for you, I didn't even bother reading any of the webpages or anything, I just sent right to the SITE INDEX part just to simply find the information for you. I apologize if I came across as condescending!

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
no need for apology, no offense taken.
I forgot about the download link being showed at registration time.
On the other hand, I never used the SITE MAP link. I guess I will start using it when not finding information.

FPL site does need a facelift
I think that is more common than not -- once you register and install, as long as nothing is broken, you forget about it. All the more reason that it should be a little clearer where the software is located, say in case you need to install on another machine or whathaveyou.alecz20 wrote:I forgot about the download link being showed at registration time.

I have gotten quite used to checking SITE MAP/INDEX links to try to find stuff. This is especially true with FPL as a lot of their internal links don't go where you think they should, or are relatively vague.
I don't think I can state enough that I think the entire site needs a major facelift and that there is a great need for more representation of information. The more I read the forums, the more I see this to be true and such an unfulfilled requirement for it.

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
Hey Hardy,
If you see any specific facelift issues on our website, feel free to PM me and I can try and get the ball rolling on making our website more "user friendly". Now I realize, I could get a million different messages pertaining to our website, but I can see what I can do. Thanks.

This link is no longer helpful as it redirects to a registration page:TheHardy wrote:This may be somewhat obvious but ...

Is it me or freephoneline becomes more an more like a scam website. Like those websites that say they have every file you search for, and give you [Download Here] link, but the link takes you to a registration page. Then you register but the file is not there.
Note that the direct links still work:
Direct link for Windows software: http://media1.freephoneline.ca/download ... neline.exe
Direct link for Mac software: http://media1.freephoneline.ca/download ... neline.zip
But there is no telling when they will be removed.

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
I don't see it as a scam, but they could make the link a little more obvious for people who have already signed up and need to download it again for whatever reason. After all, getting people registered is the main aim of their game and from there try and sell you the stuff they can make money from. They are not here to just offer a free service because they can, they are here to make money one way or another.
As I pointed out in my post above, the link is there for registered people to download again, just not very clear. A non registered person would have little use for the download anyway as they have to be registered to use it. I think that maybe it is better the way they have it now as new people coming to the site might download the software and then think "now what? It doesn't work!".

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
You are correct --- they have done something to their website that dumps the link I posted back to the registration page -- my apologies, it did NOT do this when I posted the link.
Thanks for posting the 'direct' links. I am PM'ing Lauren and Steve about the problem with the broken link (as it is from the site map page).
I also agree with Jake that it is NOT a scam at all. I have confirmation from both Lauren and Steve via PM that the website is in dire need of an update/makeover (and you can find SEVERAL of my posts to this end in VARIOUS threads!). It is just a matter of patience and digging in and waiting (which I don't think that anyone is too good at!!).
My two cents....

Re: Cannot find Freephoneline application to download
I am happy to announce that the feedback did not go unnoticed.
Now when I log in on freephoneline, I can eventually browse to the download links.
Good job

Application download
While the link from the SITEMAP now dumps you out to the registration screen, the application download is now found inside the USER ACCOUNT area.alecz20 wrote: Now when I log in on freephoneline, I can eventually browse to the download links.
Once logged in, head to APP(LICATION) SETTINGS, then the SETTINGS button at the bottom of the screen.
From the DESKTOP APPS SETTINGS, fourth button over is DOWNLOAD, which then offers you the choice of Win or Mac software.
URL for this page is: (but requires login)
https://www.freephoneline.ca/downloadDesktopApplication
Link locations remain as before:
http://media1.freephoneline.ca/download ... neline.exe (Windows)
http://media1.freephoneline.ca/download ... neline.zip (Mac)
One thing that I wish FPL might consider, is to add the CURRENT VERSION NUMBER to the page that offers the download choice! That would be handy to see if there is an updated version worth downloading!
