604-368-xxxx is a new VANCOUVER ratecentre with the WLEC Rogers ... a quick PM to FPL-Steve or FPL-Lauren should get this fixed. It is probably a mistake in the tariff where a new NPX-NXX has not yet been added.

I kind of jumped 'kjckjc' by doing that, but I was unsure of when he/she would be back on to read my reply -- knowing that this is usually dealt with quickly, I stepped in...

Question to Lauren: do the "tariff-people" only check into SPECIFIC problem exchanges (in this case 604-368) when they are reported as being potentially incorrect, or would they go the extra distance and check for any new NPA-NXX additions at the same time?? Reason I ask is that there are SUCH frequent updates.

I know that for my own interest, about once a week, I hop on over to the CNAC.CA website and check thru my local area codes, do a quick hunt for the word "ASSIGNED" (and also "RECOVERED" in case one has been deleted) so that I can try to stay current with what is going on within my own local calling area. I know that this is a MUCH larger job in terms of a CLEC to do, but there are those monthly Telecordia/Neustar update files (NNAGs I believe) that should cover this as well... Unfortunately they are not available to JOE-AVERAGE users like myself, so I have to rely on the CNAC.CA website.

Confirmed as corrected

As per Lauren's post (and not that I disbelieved her), a quick test call to 604-368-0000 resulted in a failed call message rather than a "you do not have sufficient balance to reach that destination" error. The webpage for call pricing also correctly identifies this NPA-NXX as a $0.00 (FREE) call now.

This will be auto-updated in the very near future actually.

Was this long overdue?

That would be a VERY good thing. I had initially thought that there was already some automated procedure in place already, and that it was "newer" updates that were perhaps not being properly parsed. Good to hear that this is coming, probably none to soon for the poor souls that are doing it 'by hand' right now.

Should I read farther into this and draw the conclusion that as part of this we will also get a definitive listing of 'free-to-call' ratecentres as well? I would hazard that if there is an 'automated' process that there will then be a 'list' that any updates will be checked against? That should make it easy (relatively) to extract that 'list' and publish it (assuming that it is intended for public dissemination).
