It is possible to transfer my current number to Freephone ?

Post by ipodman »

Hi, im very interested in buying a ata and transfer my current phone line ( which is with Bell Canada in Quebec) right now to Freephoneline. Is this possible to keep the same number ?

If yes what's the procedure : I subscribe with a new number and then transfer or ?

Thanks

The process is simple:

1 -- Register on Freephoneline to obtain an account. Registration is FREE. You will be assigned a telephone number here.

2 -- Speak with an agent over the phone and order additional information or hardware. The configuration (which is mandatory when porting a number) is $50. Porting a number from another company is $19.95. You can also purchase an ATA for $79 + $20 Shipping.

3 -- You will receive an LOA form in your email that must be filled out and accompanied by your current phone bill (no older than 30 days) and returned to us by email or FAX

4 -- There is some time delay in porting your number. DO NOT CANCEL your phone with your current provider until the porting is complete. Do not even begin the cancellation process - this will interrupt a successful port. When the port is complete, your ported number will replace your assigned number from the registration process.

I am interested of doing the same thing, I am with Fido in Montréal right now,
I'm going to call them to ask for the transfer paper, could you tell me the contact info to email/fax you?
This service is incredible, I just have to say it takes 4-5secs after the communication starts to be able to hear/talk with the other side, is this normal?
Even with this "bug", I don't really mind, I like that FPL is free and reliable :)

Thanks in advance,
Maxime

I can't say I've ever had the 4-5 seconds you speak of where you're unable to hear/talk. Let's wait and get some more opinions on this here from some of the other guys though.

maxblais: yes, the 4-5 second wait is normal, here is why and how to fix:

A VoIP number has 11 digits ("1" in front of area code and number) but you typically only enter 10 digits since you are not needing the "1". So the system is waiting for the 11th digits and starts ringing when it realizes you aren't putting one in.

To fix: press # after dialing and it will dial immediately. # makes the nubmer register immediately without waiting for any more digits.

Here are your answers ipodman :

1) Our VoIP Service will work with ANY internet, there will be some issues with your router -- you will have to open UDP Ports 13000, 13001, 5060, as well as 5061 to enable line 1 & 2 incoming and outgoing audio.

2) The $19.95 fee is only if you were to transfer your Rogers landline/cellphone/pager number over to our system. If you have a number we generated for you, it would only cost you the price of the ATA and Config File ($79 + $50).

We can transfer any Canadian phone number incl. cell, home, other VoIP companies.

We just need your most recent (LESS than 30 days old) phone bill (Screenshots for VBuzzers billing will work too) as well as an LOA (Letter of Authorization) that we send you which you fill out ON YOUR COMPUTER to make sure we can read it, and everything is correct etc... then print it, sign it in PEN and fax, or email back to us.
