Account number not working?
I have registered and downloaded the required software for my desktop. When I access voicemail via the "voicemail' button, I am prompted to enter an account number FIRST.
What is my account number? I have used 1 + my phone number and it does not work.

Re: Account number not working?
How soon after setting up your account did this occur? 1+NPX+NXX+LINE is the correct format for your account number. Best I can figure is that sometimes the account generation takes a little bit. If it has been more than about 30 mins since you set up the account and logged into it, you should be able to access the voicemail.dansirely wrote:I have registered and downloaded the required software for my desktop. Are you dialing *98 from the softphone? You could also alternately try calling one of the access numbers located here (http://www.freephoneline.ca/vmAccessNumbers) and seeing if that works any better -- note you can also call these from another phone, in case you think that the softphone is acting up.
Let us know how you make out!

Something is not set up right. You shouldn't have to enter anything if you are clicking the voicemail button from the softphone, it should take you straight in. Does everything else work OK, like making and receiving calls?

This morning my account number worked! Waiting worked.
Last noob question, what is my default password? Entering 3 to access voicemail options after entering my acc number did not work.

Glad to hear it! Not sure why it took a while to set up, I would have thought it should be all more or less instant. But what do I knowdansirely wrote:This morning my account number worked! Waiting worked.

You need to set up your password - http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq#37
There was a thread about setting up remote voicemail access, this was my finding http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic ... 202#p14202

Default pass
Glad to hear -- I knew from experience that sometimes the account setup takes a bit for whatever reason. Default voicemail password is the last 4 digits of your phone number. This can be changed by logging into your account from the web. Easy change, and I HIGHLY suggest it to prevent someone from hijacking your voicemail messages!dansirely wrote:This morning my account number worked! Waiting worked.

Thought so too
That is what I was thinking too, at the time. And I had read that he was hitting "VM", but sometimes people post things in a form that is not what they are actually doing, so that is why I posted some other suggestions as well. As it turns out, it was just the waiting game.Jake wrote:Something is not set up right. From what I know, the account set up "server" is separate from the voicemail/fax "server", so the lag time between the two is not completely un-explainable. Why so long though, I do not know; it does however explain why incoming and outgoing calls worked fine, but the voicemail was pooched.
What would have been interesting, in this case, would have been to call into the FPL number to HIT voicemail and see what the message was! The default 'called party not available' etc or the 'that is not an active subscriber number' message... ???

Re: Account number not working?
Thanks for the help guys!
Definitely a lag, in which you are asked for an acc number AND voicemail password via VM (which is in fact what I hit everytime) rather than straight up access. Yetmysteriously there was no lag time today when I had to re-register (accidently deregistered).
Anyhow, glad this is here for anyone who is confused in the future. I certainly didnt understand the potential for laggyness, and was unable to find the answer in other posts (with the exception of a rude, cursing individual asking what their account number was and how to set up VM) until now. Thanks!

Lag
Hola, glad we could be of assistance! The regular bunch here is quite helpful, IMHO.
By the system lagginness, I originally meant the time between the registration server and the voicemail server. However, when accessing the vm system, if you WAIT for the prompts, it does take quite a while. End each response for accounts or passwords with a pound (#) and you will bypass the time-out wait (I assume this is what you are meaning by lag, but perhaps I am mis-reading or mis-interpretting).

Re: Account number not working?
Ah, to clarify I meant lag between the registration server and vm server originally as well; I suppose the account activation needed time. As for the prompts lag, thats a useful tip.

Voicemail creation should usually be instant with the account - we will make sure this is checked out

VM setup w/acct act
FWIW, to chime in late again, when I set up my other account to use purely as a fax receiving number, I encountered the "lag" in vm creation too, Steve. It is not an isolated or one-off issue. Hopefully this may assist in the troubleshooting procedure a bit.
