This call should be FREE!

Post by TheHardy »

I hope that this STICKY can be a 'catch-all' for people to post to with problem reports of calls that should be FREE ($0.00). Mainly new exchanges or tariff errors.

Mods (Steve/Kris), feel free to merge other threads here if you wish!

In that vein, and following other people having found problems, I had too much time on my hands, and found the following LIST of NPA-NXX's (exchanges) which are all in the Metro-Vancouver local calling area, and should therefore be FREE to call. I have only gone back 3-months worth of data to check these. The FPL online rate-checker shows them as $0.02, so I can only guess that the tariff table is off. The source for all these is ... well -- Steve knows! 8-) ;) 8-)

Note: I did this all by HAND, the hard way, no scripts, plugged each in manually and searched a few files manually -- amazing what you can do when you are jobless and bored out of your goddamn tree!

Note: as I say, this is only back 3 months worth of new numbers that I hand checked. I cannot warrant that it is EXCLUSIVE or COMPLETE. CNAC website shows a mix of ASSIGNED and IN SERVICE for these NPA-NXX's,, but the FPL lookup has them rated as NON-free.

Good luck Steve!!

Pre-empting

Post by TheHardy »

Oh ... Jake and Steve -- please refrain from the smart-aleck comments about how I have too much time on my hands! ;) Jake: also no sniping about scripts and the like as I am not a coder!! ;)

Thank goodness that over the 3 month stats I had, I only had 17 NPA-NXX combos to manually bang thru the FPL ratechecker!! I know you threatened to bash a script against it, but I think you were joking!! :o The tough part was extracting those 17 from the huge data files, which was just a search thru 6 files, handwrite and then crosscheck, but it took some time...

604-704 & 604-442, 604-446

Post by TheHardy »

These exchanges, also in Vancouver, and assigned to WindMobile (Globalive) is also incorrect in the tariff table. Should be a free call, but comes up rated at $0.02. They are ACTIVE (as per CNAC) but I did not dig up their in service dates.

Also, as an update, no movement or tariff corrections on the long list of npa-nxx's I posted above; maybe Steve is getting the automated program up and running, rather than fixing all the issues I found ... ;-)

more broken Vancouver LCA tariff CO's

Post by TheHardy »

A few more for the broken list --- I think I will keep this message open while I check a pile of these:

604-361 - Vancouver - Rogers Wireless
604-364 - Vancouver - Rogers Wireless
604-382 - Ladner - Shaw Telecom
604-474 - Port Coquitlam - Shaw Telecom

604-559 - Vancouver - Shaw Telecom
604-651 - Vancouver - Rogers Wireless
604-652 - Vancouver - Rogers Wireless
604-653 - Vancouver - Rogers Wireless

All should be FREE (Vancouver local) and all are mis-tariffed. Probably one more message when I bang thru the 778 table, but I am off for now! :)

31 more CO codes not rated as local (to Vancouver)

Post by TheHardy »

I must be bored with too much time on my hands. Either that, or once I sink my teeth into something..... So above I have posted 30 CO codes that are showing up in the tariff table (Rate Look up) as NON-free, when indeed they should be free; all within the Greater Vancouver metro calling area.

After painstakingly sitting at my browser with the CNAC website open, and also the rate-checker, I have plucked another 31 CO codes out of the 778 area code that are also mis-tariffed; this brings the total that I have found in this thread alone (in 4 days?) to 61.

780-666 / 780-807 Edmonton

Post by TheHardy »

780-666 - Edmonton - Iristel
780-807 - Edmonton - Globalive (WIND)

Another pair to add to the hit list of CO codes that are not correctly tariffed. I must have a bit of bad luck when it comes to finding these! It is not even like I was looking for these ones (as I was for the BC list which I painstakingly sought out), but just calling around trying to find work ... lo and behold, I get two more non-working/mis-tariffed ones! Maybe FPL should employ me to check their tariffs!!! :ugeek:

Re: This call should be FREE!

This might help (or hinder) you.

I checked 8,349 numbers against their tariff checker. I believe that those 8,349 should be free, but I could be wrong. This is a list of all the ones that came back at not free. I did it over a period of time as not to hammer the FPL server. The numbers were just randomly generated, so only pay attention to the NPX-NPX part of the number.

Hehe, thanks Jake -- I knew that you would pop up eventually with something to chip in on this thread! I mainly started it because there are all those 'one-offs' for a specific CO code that have the initial post, and then 1 or 2 follow up only messages -- waste of a thread, IMHO. Had thought that perhaps this could be the catch-all and the mods could, at their option, merge into it.

Also: insofar as checking numbers and pounding the FPL server, you only need the first 7D of the 11D # to generate an accurate report ... ie: 1778300 is sufficient.

Thanks for the page, I will check that now.

Did you ever get around to correcting your NPA-NXX list pages to include the 9xx series???

*EDIT: after viewing your file and website, I see that you have added the header for the 9xx series! :D

Assigned/not yet in service

Post by TheHardy »

Jake wrote:I checked 8,349 numbers against their tariff checker.
Not that I took the time to check the WHOLE list (that would really show that I have no life and far too much time on my hands!!), but I took a peek at a few selected numbers. When they show up as ASSIGNED at CNAC, they usually are 'scheduled' to go into service, and I can fully see why FPL might not yet have then inserted into their tariffs.

That being said, the CNAC website (which I am guessing that you are getting your information from...) has a nasty tendency to not update as often as it should -- as I pointed out in an earlier post, there are a number of CO codes in BC alone that have PAST their 'in-service' dates, but are still only showing as ASSIGNED.

Also sending you a PM regarding a few things ....

Thanks again Jake for the variety of things that you have done WRT FPL and the various lists/databases/scripts...

Correlation between online ratechecker and actual tariff

Post by TheHardy »

Via PM, Steve brings up an interesting point, and that is the correlation between the FPL online rate check utility (http://www.freephoneline.ca/ldServices#rl) and the actual TARIFFS that ATA/softphone initiated calls are rated against.

As I pointed out to Steve via PM, whenever someone else has had a problem with a "free" calling area, I have verified it by placing a call to NPA-NXX-0000 (usually safe, rarely assigned by telco's, and seeing I have a $0.00 balance, likely to ALSO fail if the tariff is wrong...) mostly getting the "your balance is not sufficient to place a call to that destination". I then stuff the info into the ratechecker, which invariably spits up $0.02.

Next step is to PM Steve (either myself, or whomever initially has the problem). Steve msgs back "FIXED", I check the ratechecker, it shows FREE $0.00, and my test call to NPA-NXX-0000 come back as "Your call cannot be completed as dialed" or "The number you have reached is not assigned" or some similar message which means that the call is GOING to the switch and THEN failing, rather than being a tariff issue at the START of the line.

Steve is looking into where the RateChecker is getting it''s information; his initial view is that the two are not closely connected, but I think differently --- because I am DARN sure that there is no one really MANUALLY updating the ratechecker webpage/database after EACH AND EVERY tariff update -- I think they DIP the same place (or at least there is SOMETHING behind the scenes that are shared!!).

Will update with whatever I hear back from Steve, unless he posts it here first!

update (604-704 / 778-368)

Post by TheHardy »

It has been uncharacteristically long since I reported these CO codes as having a tariff error. Maybe it is the fact that I ended up doing some research and found SO many of them that it is taking quite a while to deal with it ... or maybe I just have Steve miffed at me!! ;)

In any case, there are two CO codes that I would like to get working with FPL service, which are still coming up as being chargeable even though they should be free:

604-704-xxxx (this is a number I call for part time on call work....)
778-368-xxxx (number of a place I am trying to get on the spare board for).

Any assistance from Steve (or someone else at FPL) to get these two corrected in the tariff ASAP would be much appreciated!!

Sorry for being a pain ....

(and btw: it is odd, because USUALLY the tariff complaints have been dealt with in a much more expedient fashion! Like I say, maybe I got someone mad! ;))
