Recently signed up with ftpl, and things are going ok so far.
One thing I've noticed, it seems to take a long time for the status of the message waiting indicator to change. I don't know if it is something to do with my ATA, or just the service in general. I have a SPA-2102 and registration is set to 180. I can see the ATA re-registering every three minutes, but the status of the MWI does not change. The MWI does change eventually.
Questions:
- Is it normal for the MWI to take a long time (60+ minutes) to change status?
- How/when is the MWI status picked up by the ATA anyway - is it at registration, or some other time?
Any help on this would be appreciated. The slow MWI woud be annyoing enough for me to keep my old answering machine.

Not much help
I have seen this topic pop up on the forums quite a bit, and I think that it is inherent to the FPL network. While there are things to mitigate it, it does seem to be one of those 'features' of FPL service.
Maybe someone can give more specifics or information on this for you. Good luck!

Re: Slow MWI
Thanks for the reply - I did some searching before I posted, but now I've done a bunch more.
It does look like there is an ongoing issue with this, it isn't just me. It's just that the stated expected refresh interval for the polling of the mailboxes by the system that updates the MWI is around 10 minutes. I'm seeing times way longer than this. It would be nice if one of the fpl guys could chime in here, so I know that it really isn't 10 minutes and I should just accept it, rather than wasting my time trying to solve something I can't fix.
In any event, I did order a port over of my land line to fpl. Hopefully that turns out to be a good decision!

'official word'
FPL-Steve and FPL-Lauren float around the forums and threads here, most of the time they will chime in when they can; if for some reason you don't get a reply within a day or two, drop one of the two of them a PM. I've seen a post or two from Steve this morning already, so I know he is in and about the office, maybe after a cuppa or two he wil find this thread!da_123 wrote: It does look like there is an ongoing issue with this, it isn't just me. Re: Slow MWI
It's 10 minutes. With 45,000 subscribers they can't/don't refresh them all quicker then that. No need to bug Steve or Kris, it's been explained in the past.

I had to really hunt for it and search ...

You are correct, I stand/sit corrected.admin wrote:freephoneline.ca uses what I guess you could call a cycling message waiting system. This means from the time you sign up, every 10 minutes our voice mail system is cycling through all accounts and signaling the devices that require MWI to be turned off or on, this just so happens to take 10 minutes.
