When I call someone I hear them, but they cant hear me

Post by robchiappetta »

When I call someone on FPL (via linksys PAP2T ATA), I can hear them just fine, but they cannot hear me. When I hang up the phone and they call me back we get two way voice with no issues. I have mostly noticed this issue with any who has a Rogers cell phone. I haven't noticed this issue with LAN lines or other mobile carriers.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Rob

This might be a codec negotiation issue, try setting your codec to a combination of G729a and G711u, with the "Use Preferred Codec Only:" set to yes, and no, if it isn't already. Our PAP2T configuration guide located here have the ideal settings proven to work with all providers.

Thanks Kris for the quick reply. I just confirmed on my ATA that I had these settings setup correctly, which I do.

I then tested it again by calling a Rogers Blackberry and same issue....I can hear them but they cannot hear me. I then thought maybe it might something to do on the router side of things, and maybe certain ports need to be opened, but when searching through the forums, there are several mentions of which ports need to be opened. Is there a list of ports that FPL recommends to be opened on the router?

Any other ideas why this would be happening?

Weird - I seem to be having the same issue. ATA is a SPA2102.

I have to do some more testing, and I will open another thread if it turns out that my issue does not exactly match this one. But several times I've had no outgoing audio on calls I've initiated. The other end was a Rogers cell phone (or even Rogers voice mail for a cell phone). The other person can call me right back and we're good. I can call other numbers (Bell) and no issue.

This is really annoying the significant other... need to figure this out.

Forgot to mention, I am forwarding the appropriate SIP and RTP ports. Using the incoming and outgoing proxies. But I have experimented with other variations (no outgoing proxy, STUN/no STUN, NAT settings on the SPA) and it does not solve this problem.

I don't know if I have an incident of this and tell tech support the time, if they can see anything in the logs?

That is exactly what is happening to me da_123. Weird only on Rogers Cell Phones or Voicemail....they call me right back and we can hear each other just fine. Calling Rogers Home Homes, Bell Cell Phones or Bell Home phones, no issues at all.

I wonder if more people are having the same problem, but just haven't experienced it yet

I posted this in the NS thread but i recently started to have issues with people not hearing me and odly enough only Long distance out of province. After some troubleshooting i found it was the 711u codec i switched it to 729a and it seems to be working well.

SInce you have a pap2t also try swtiching to 729a and report back.

This has been an on and off issue for me since signing up, when I call my Mothers Rogers home phone, now most of the time she cna't hear me, even after many many attempts to call in the end she has to call me back and then we can hear each other.

The problem has now expanded to other Rogers home phones and Rogers Cell.

Also callers now do not see my caller id I come in as unknown!

Hope I don't have to call 911!
