the phone does not ring when called in
I have Linksys SPA2102 model connected to TP-Link Model No. TD-W8960N 300M Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router. When someone calls in, the phone does not ring. I missed a lot of important calls. Frephoneline does not provide the support because i am using VoIP not provided by them. The funny thing is that if unplug the power, the first call can make the phone. After I finished the conversation and hang up, no more call can be heard. Please help me. I always give up and try to get the paid VoIP service, but I have already purchased 2 of Linksys SPA2102. I have no problem to call out and check the voice mail.
Your help is greaty appreciated.

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
It is your router that is causing you problems. Your defective router will only keep a port open to your ATA as long as there is traffic. Once the ATA is idle for as little as 2 minutes, the defective router is nice enough to forget where the ATA is, thus no incoming calls. Sadly, A lot of routers are like that. I would prefer you get a good router with DD-WRT firmware as an option, but because it is a combo unit, you have to make the best of a bad router.
The ATA has a setting to try to compensate for this router defect. It is called "set registration period" Your SPA2102 seems to call it "keep alive" You would need to configure the "keep alive" settings. Here is an example that might or might not be useful to you, http://www.voipvoip.com/linksys-spa2102/ Go to the bottom of that page where the NAT/Firewall Issues section is, and use those settings in that section, with the exception of the NAT Keep Alive Intvl: Change that from 15 minutes to 2 minutes.

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
Your ATA usually has the time zone settings, of which I would not know where it would be on your ATA. I am guessing daylight saving time is not activated, though in 5 days, the problem will take care of itself until daylight savings time pops up again. The voice mail time is set by freephoneline, which should be perfect for you, but a pain for everyone else not on eastern standard time.

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
Hi Bridona:
Thank you for your clear explanation. I am like the most people as to set up the time zone my Voip adapter as I mentioned above: UTC-5:00 Eastern Time (US and Canada), but it does not twork. As you said, it is ok and I can survive. Tonight I was trying to change the setting as you suggested. The strange thing is that I cannot login to my adapter: 192.168.0.1. The website shows"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, What you can try: diagnose Connection Problems, More information
do you know anything about it. Btw, what kind of the system are you using. thx.

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
Your ATA would not likely be 192.168.0.1, because unless changed, the default ip for the TD-W8960N is 192.168.1.1 Your SPA2102 would likely be assigned, by the router, an ip starting at 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.101, etc.qilie wrote:Hi Bridona:

As I said before, I have a DD-WRT router. I use multiple VOIP providers, and trying to get them to work using only one IP address was a bit of a challenge, though ultimately successful. I would go as so far as to say you need a DD-WRT capable router to ensure a stable VOIP connection. I would not say other routers are bad at it, but there are a lot that are just not up to the job.
I kind of have an issue with your SPA2102, It probably has not had a firmware update for a good 5 years. Sad thing is, a lot of ATA devices have been long on the tooth when it comes to new features and bug fixes. You might or might not get you DST issue fixed, but in any case, consider that the next time you decide to get any more Cisco gear. There is a pretty good chance your SPA2102 is counterfeit gear, ain't that special!

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
Hi Bridona:
I bought SPA 2102 from Directcanada.com at $54.99. it does look a fake device.
I tried to config as you mentioned to change from 15 to 2 mins on my another Voip Linksys PAP2. It still does not work. I am very desperated now. I just realized that if i pick up the phone and hear dialing tone and hang up, then the device both SPA 2101 and PAP2 will ring. do you think something is wrong with my TD-W8960N 300M Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router? I am justing guessing since I am not specialized in the field.

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
The TD-W8960N allows you to forward ports, which it looks like you have to do to the SPA2102. The SPA2102 needs SIP port 5060 forwarded to it. The SPA2102 also needs RTP ports 16384 to 16482 forwarded from the router. (I think you can get away with forwarding just 16384 and 16385) When you have all the settings saved, turn off the modem/router and the ATA. Turn the modem/router on, wait 40 seconds, then turn on the ATA. See if that works.

I don't have a PAP2, but for my own setup I set the Keep Alive interval to 30 seconds. Perhaps you can try that too. Also, make sure to disable/delete the stun settings if you have enabled it by accident.qilie wrote:Hi Bridona:

Re: the phone does not ring when called in
As I do not own a SPA2102, I had to browse the web for settings to another voip provider. http://www.worlddialpoint.net.au/au/sup ... a2102.html Take a look at step 5, and hopefully you can find a SIP tab.
And you have to make an RTP setting on both the ATA, and the router. The router need to have specific RTP ports assigned to the ATA, and the ATA has to be set up to accept those specific RTP port you got your router to assign.
