Area code selection?

Post by hermansb »

Hello,

I tried registering on freephoneline.ca, but I wanted a 416 area code number (for Toronto). However after trying all I could get was a 647 area code number (also in Toronto). I was wondering if there was any way to change the number to a 416 one, would I have to pay an extra fee and if so how much? I was also wondering how much a second line would cost (where we got to pick the area code again)

Thank you for your time!

It is a good bet freephoneline no longer has 416 numbers in their inventory, because getting a new 416 exchange is almost impossible now.

If you are still set to get a 416 number, you can port one from another carrier to freephoneline. I am sure Bell still has 416 numbers. just buy a SIM for $5, activate the service, then get the number ported. Freephoneline will charge you $50 for the SIP settings if you did not buy them already, and a $25 porting charge.

If you want a second line, it would again cost around $80 total. You would have to set up another account with another email address, makes it easier for freephoneline's book keeping or something.

I just looked in my Telus members area where I can change my number and it shows quite a few 416 numbers in there still. So Bridonca's suggestion is probably going to be your best bet if you really want a 416 number. A Telus SIM is 10$ though, so you are probably better off looking elsewhere.
