audio in Windows 7

Post by hkeram »

I have tried using the softphone under Windows 7 (64-bit version).

On the control panel of this machine, I am using a USB headset and I have declared this one as the "default" and "communication default" for both the voice output and microphone input.

When I call the soft phone, it rings in the speakers of the machine. When I pickup the call, I can't hear the other party and it is the same thing on his side.

I also have the softphone installed on a Mac (10.7.2) and the audio just works fine.

Both machines are on the same network, going through the same Bell DSL (Bell Speedstream router).

Since I have no way to select an audio source in the softphone, I suspect it is stuck with the "microphone-in" and "line-out" under Windows 7 but I don't have a plain old vanilla headset to verify this.

BTW, the USB headset just works fine with Skype but, in the Skype application, one can explicitely select the microphone and speakers to use ---- the FPL softphone should offer the same, otherwise, it is useless.

Thx.

There are a couple of things we can try. First thing, do you have speakers that you can test to see if that works on its own? That would be my first suggestion.
The softphone looks at the default audio device and so, even if it is a usb headset, it should still work without any issues. This might also be a port forwarding issue. Have you checked your firewall settings? I suggest opening 13000-13001 and 5060-5061 in the firewall. This is the most likely culprit.
Let me know how it goes
