Follow me not working

Post by mixmastermark »

I recently got a new Telus cell and changed my follow me settings to reflect that number. Problem, when I ring my FPL #, it goes directly to my FPL voicemail and never rings the cell.

When I use other numbers for follow me, I have no problems. All my numbers, Telus, others, including my FPL line are in the 613 area code.

Help!

Did you read this thread? http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2634 they had a similar thing. What is the first 6 numbers of your phone? (613-XXX)

Like what was mentioned in that thread, what happens when you call your cell from your FPL softphone or ATA?

Just as a heads up, if you are trying to set up your FPL number as a 'free calling number', then hoping all the calls to your FPL number will forward to your cell for free, it won't work using the forwarding service. When FPL forwards your call it will keep the original callerID so it will be the same as them calling your Telus phone directly.

Anyway, call your cell from a FPL softphone to make sure the call will go through, then either reply here with the first 6 numbers of your cell, or PM Kris or Steve to look at it.

Hi Jake thanks for the reply! First 6 numbers are 613-914. Indeed, from the FPL softphone calling my Telus cell number failed. My other cell works fine but the first 6 #s for that one are 613-769.

Well as in that other thread, your number should be free to call. I see it listed in numbers local to this exchange http://www.localcallingguide.com/lprefi ... xch=156480 which is one of FPL's

It is probably new so not on FPL's free rate list. If Kris does not see this before, I would send Admin, or FPL-Steve a message and ask them to add it to the rate plan. He's usually pretty quick.

Funny to get two of these problems one day after another. I guess there is a lot of new exchanges rolling out.

Did you get the Flex55+ plan? We just got that here along with a few other goodies I managed to squeeze out of them and I am very happy with it. I have set up a DISA script on a PBX we have here, so I added a FPL number to one of the 10 friends and now enjoy free calling in and out.

Thanks for answering Jake. I actually added this around 3:30PM when I read it; this destination is indeed free and has been added to our free calling area tariff.

I told you he was quick. What other phone company gets things fixed that fast? Back in the UK I used to have to give the local BT engineers a 4 pack to get them to do anything to my phone line, Kris is cheaper, and faster

Hi,
Would that be easier if FPL update their free calling list every 3 or 6 months? Because new number NPA-NXX coming out a lot now. FPL should take the list from localcalling guide to update the system. Not just one that user reported. So, we can keep forum clean. I have quite a few number that can't call but I just forget about it because I still have landline. If everyone report, it would get messy.

I've got a similar problem with "Follow Me" not working. I'm trying to forward my FPL (778-501-XXXX) to a WIND mobile phone (604-442-XXXX). All other functions work on FPL and the WIND line.

Here are the results: FORMAT *Call origination* --> *Forwarding Agent* --> *Call Termination*
Rogers cell --> FPL --> WIND not working
Bell cell --> FPL --> WIND not working. However on the bell phone I will hear one ring before it hangs up. Following the hang up on the Bell handset the WIND phone will do 0.5 rings and then stop. It is not answerable and is like an artifact of a received signal AFTER the Bell handset call was terminated.

So to troubleshoot I performed many tests including the following configurations to confirm this is a problem ONLY when FPL forwards to WIND or perhaps specifically to 604-442-XXXX
FPL --> Rogers --> WIND working
FPL --> Bell --> WIND working
Rogers --> FPL --> BELL working
Bell --> FPL --> Rogers working

Can anyone help me solve this as I have become a huge fan of FPL and want to stay with them.

As we have mentioned, this system will be automatically updated in the coming months (maybe even weeks).

Thanks

I remain uncertain this is my problem. I have no problem placing a call from my FPL to the 604-442-XXXX in question. Further, the call does not end up at voice mail (after failing to foward to the cell phone) as the original poster spoke of but rather simply disconnects.

I know your time is valuable but I was trying to confirm what the problem is and I'm guessing I posted in the right thread to avoid unnecessary clutter. I first called to work with WIND on the problem yesterday but that was fruitless.

Thank you again for your time.

I only just signed up to post in the forums but I have been using FPL for a while.

I too am experiencing the same issue with the follow me to a Wind mobile number as silicone. I just recently tried this as it was always going to my Rogers mobile before with no issues.

It is a hit-and-miss with calls going to the Wind line. It will just go dead for the caller (busy signal) instead of the FPL voicemail or my Wind voicemail.

Thanks.

If you're having troubles with Wind numbers as follow-me, can you please PM me your number, along with the Wind number? I will have to investigate why these calls are not always completing.

Are you able to call the number directly without problems?

Hi Steve and thank you for the reply.

Ironically since the post it's been working fine today. I've only been trying it with my Wind mobile for 2 days now.

Yes I can call the number directly with no issues.

I'll post back and PM you my info if I encounter it again. Thank you.

There are monthly updates published by Telcordia specifically for the telcom industry --- it is a PAID service, however, but Fibernetics (FPL's parent) should be subscribed to it. The planned new exchanges (NPA-NXX's) are published AT LEAST a month before they go active with actual LIVE DATES supplied.

There is also the official CNAC website which lists the info too ... www.cnac.ca ... however, some of their information is out of date too (numbers showing as ASSIGNED, when they are actually already IN SERVICE).

Check out these sites, let us know what you think -- seeing this is the GENERAL chat! ;-)

Can anyone tell me when 450-278 may be added? I see 450-277 and 450-279 seem to work. I just want to create a number as a work line and forward it to my personal cell. This way it will keep my personal number private from work clients. I can always just drop the FPL in the future if need be. Right now I am not able to foward the number. It goes straight to VM. From what I read it seems that my problem is that the 450-278 is not in the list.....

hi all,
thanks. yes indeed the number i posted is a new rogers cell phone number.

thanks for helping. When will the numbers currently incorrectly labelled as non-free be switched to free? Or will it be done one at a time?

Saint-Hyacinthe is not on-net, nor is it local to any on-net cities so it will not be added to the free calling footprint at this time. Calling to this region is $0.02/min, which is a very low rate. I'd recommend checking out our long distance calling vouchers :)

Hopefully soon --- the appropriate people at FPL have been made aware of it, and it is usually fairly quick.

FPL put in a new "automatic update" to their tariff system a little while back, but there are still a large number of incorrectly tariffed exchanges/NPA-NXX's in there -- I am not sure if the new auto-system simply works on NEW additions that come in AFTER it was put in, or if it is slowly going thru the WHOLE enchilada.

To the best of my knowledge, for CURRENT tariff errors, they are still being HAND corrected one-at-a-time as they are spotted. Steve/Kris/Mike may be able to correct me if I am wrong on this. I have suggested that the tariff needs a thorough going thru, but I am only one voice and a cheapo free one at that! ;-)

Were there any other specific numbers that you were/are having trouble with at this time??

The 2c/min is relatively cheap, but then don't forget to add the 4c Connection Fee. For a quick call or a hang-up on the call-fwd, that is an effective rate of 6c/min for the first minute ... VERY HIGH.

Steve replied to this already, and his post is very accurate ... forwarding to "long distance" locations can get expensive though via FPL. That indeed is the reason that you cannot currently accomplish what you are trying to do; "free" forwarding only works on numbers that are FREE to call from the FPL line itself. Your self-diagnosis of it being not 'on the list' proved correct, as verified by Steve. Sad that St-Hy is not in the plans any time soon.

I can see what you are trying to do in regards to creating a just straight fwd number -- however, there are two problems. FPL is intended for personal use, and therefore your intended usage would violate the ToS agreement ... not sure if there is a differentiation between SMALL business/HOME business and other business usage -- best to seek clarification for that so you don't run amock of it in the future.

There's more than likely another solution that you could apply to your situation, but I am not sure how much effort or cost you want to incur to get the 'anonymous' forwarding solution you are after.

Sorry I could not be of more help!
