587 Area Code

Post by sneek »

I was wondering if anybody else was having issues with the 587 area code. One of my friends just got a new phone in Calgary and it was billed to my account as long distance. I am aware that 587 is new and is used through out all of Alberta, but I know for sure that this is a Calgary number. Does anybody know why I am being billed?

587 Calgary should be covered.

Give a PM to FPL-Steve or FPL-Kris (http://forum.freephoneline.ca/memberlis ... =group&g=4) and they should be able to get it sorted, or tell you definitely if it is covered or not.

It probably just needs to be added to the free call list.

Well, FPL's NPANXX is hardly updated. I don't know why they like to do manual update when user report.
They should update every month or so. I did compile the list of NPANXX for Calgary and posted on this forum but they want me to tell them which one are not covered, not the whole list. I don't want to try calling every NPANXX to find out. So, I give up.

Steve mentioned they are rolling out an automated system for updating this sort of thing, so hopefully these sorts of problems won't be around much longer.

If they did throw the whole thing thru an auto-update, they still missed and failed. I have a few outstanding 604 & 778 issues still which are in the Vancouver-Free-Calling area, but still pop up as charged/toll calls.

This is even more important now that there is that annoying CONNECTION surcharge.

I still cannot fathom how/why FPL is applying the tariffs. I know that Telcordia provides monthly updates to the Telecom industry regarding new NPA-NXXs coming on line and associated exchange changes/modifications ... I even PM'd Steve with info regarding this.

Maybe Steve or Kris can shed light on what process FPL is using. I know that the tariff overhaul has created some strange anomolies now WRT some "unlisted" free-calling cities both additions and removals ... so we can hang in and see what all shakes out! :-)

I did see that there has been a LOT of action in the 587 area code, and also that FPL is now assigning CALGARY based FPL numbers out of their 587-887 pool. Edmonton still seems to come out of 780-851 from what I can see.
