Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
I read through the 3 page sticky but still did not find an answer to my problem, or I didn't notice it.
These are the instructions that I've tried:
connect the WAN port (blue on SPA2102) to your modem, and the LAN port (yellow on SPA2102) to your computer. disconnected. Then connnect a phone to the Phone 1 port and dial ****7932#0#1 then hang up. Then open a browser and enter the ip address 192.168.0.1 to access the ATA's web interface for the rest of the configuration. Also you will have to reboot your modem (disconnect the power cord and plug it back in).
I turned off all my devices, (PC, SIP & Cable Modem), attached the cables with Modem to internet port on SIP, PC to ethernet port on SIP, and then phone line into jack 1. Restarted everything and and dialed the code on my phone upon restart but then I am not able to access the ATA web interface and my browser just hangs after entering 192.168.0.1
Can someone please help me get this up and running?
Thank you

That IP address is suspect. What do you have for a router?

from a phone plugged into your ATA dial **** then at the voice prompt dial 110# and listen to the IP address, then try browsing to that one.

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
Ok, so one more question. I got my Linksys from Yak when I was going to use their voip service but never did. Do I need to reset this device first before going any further? If so, how do I do that?
Update
Got it all working, thanks for the help.

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
Well, back to the drawing board again. The SPA2102 is only capable of 10Mb capacity and I have a 24/1 cable line. So I went and bought a TPlink gigabyte 5 port switch as the guys at the store both said it would work after I explained my situation.
It isn't working.
I plugged my cable ethernet into the switch, then ran out to the ATA and the Motherboard.
What am I missing or will a switch not work here?

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
If you plan on using a switch, hook it directly to the modem. Hopefully the modem has a built in router. What is the model number of the modem?
Plug your computer to the switch, plug the ATA's wan port to the switch.
You will now have to access your modem's router settings.

My modem is a Thompson (cable) DMC475, don't think it has it's own router.

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
I agree with you, if the DMC475 has a router, it does not seem to be an easy one to access. Return that switch, and get a decent router, preferably one that can be flashed with DD-WRT. Most routers have a built in switch already,
The SPA2102 is an awful router. Adding a switch to it won't make it any better a router. it is barely passable as an ATA, in my not so humble opinion.

What would you consider as a great ATA?
Thanks

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
One of the better ATA devices is the Grandstream HT502. Freephoneline's HT286 is a good choice also. I am partial to Grandstream because that is what their business is, VOIP gear. CISCO/Sipura tends to treat their consumer VOIP and routers as a sideline business to ignore once the product is churned out. If there is a bug, buy a new piece of Cisco gear, and hope they ironed out the bug with the new gadget.
Saying that, It has been a rare occasion that I could not get any ATA working with Freephoneline. It is just some ATA devices are easier to configure than others. Most of my issues were router related, and if you do not have a good router, there is only so much an ATA can do for you.
As I said before, SPA2102 is an awful router, it likely is an OK ATA, and I am sure users will be happy with it once it is properly configured. And there lies the rub, getting the beast properly configured. I personally think it is better to pay the 5 to 10 extra bucks on a good ATA, but if you like science projects, I understand that flow of logic also. How do you think I know so much!

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
Thanks,
I wouldn't dare to use 2102 as router but I used 3000 for 5 years and now 2102 for 2 years without any problems.

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
Well I had everything up and running fine with my new Linksys e2000 router...until I had to reboot my computer and then all my info was reset on the 2102 back to the YAK voip settings since I bought the ATA from YAK. So instead of inputting all the info AGAIN into the ATA, I ran a reset on the 2102 instead to try and get rid of the default YAK info (****73738#)
Now though I cannot access the 2102 through the address I get when I type ****110#, which is 192.168.1.131
I just get a "The connection was reset" message.
Help???

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
Can you ping 192.168.1.131? Anytime I've seen 'the connection was reset', usually waiting a short period of time will give you access, or simply rebooting the device and trying again. If you can ping but can't access the web interface, maybe try a different browser. Are you still having the issue?

Re: Help with Linksys sp12102 setup
I was able to ping, tried IE9 with the same results. Rebooted but still the same error.
Problem solved. After resetting I used the code ****7932#1#1 and then everything went smoothly from there. Thanks.
