I talked to one of the customer rep. at freephoneonline.ca and she told me the ip of the device is 000.000.000.000. I recycled my modem but I still got the problem
and she said to contact my ISP and ask them to release the ip address for the device.
Here's what Rogers told me:
You'll need to contact your voip provider for appropriate assistance. There is no IP for me to release. The adapter gets an IP automatically from the gateway.
Any suggestions?
By the way, the device worked fine for a couple of days,
Phone not working, no dial tone

Try running STUN and Enable NAT Mapping NAT mapping if you have that option.

Did you try power cycling the modem and ATA? Try a new ethernet cable as well and a different port on the router. You can also set the Grandstream statically if the router doesn't seem to give off an IP, but it's a bit of a pain. Go to page 9 here:
http://www.grandstream.com/user_manuals/HandyTone.pdf
So the first step would be ***, #, 01, then '9' to toggle to static IP mode.
You then need to go through ***, #, 02 03 & 04 to set the network information. When you enter the option, it will read the current address, then you key in the new one. For example, when you do IP(02), it will read 000.000.000.000, then enter 192168001065 (assuming you are on the 192.168.1.xxx subnet). You do not need any dots, just the numbers, but you need to fill the octet with 0s, meaning the 1 would need to be entered as 001.
Having said that, a new ethernet cable might fix it.
