Needs for Number Porting

Post by Bloodsong »

Okay so just peeking at the posted FAQ, it says to do a number port (aside from $19.95 admin fee.) you need an LOA and a copy of my most recent bill. I'm on paperless, so would a PDF suffice?

Next, What exactly is an LOA?

Reason: My Palm 700p, which I love so much, has taken a turn towards the sickly this morning. My contract with my provider expires March 18th, so getting out of it would cost about $20. If I decided I want to continue having cellular service, I can switch to who ever will give me the greatest deal at this point.

*hugs his palm*

Of course I'm going to play around with my Palm hardware and see if I can revive it, I like the device. Doesn't mean my 3 year old phone has to be the one I use to make calls.
Anyway, I would love to preserve the number, and signing it over to an FPL account seems like the best way to do this.

Which leads me to question 2:

Does number porting require the creation of a new account, or does it take over my existing account? ( I have some contacts who only know me at my existing account's Phone#)

Thanks in advance for a swift reply.

I'll clarify the LOA in the FAQ BUT:

LOA is Letter of Authorization - A form that tells the carrier "Yes I said they can take your customer" basically.

Number porting does in fact take ownership of the existing account - you may of course specify this. So creating a new one would be your best option though you will need to buy another config file.

No config file currently, I'm just on the Softphone, but if I don't have my cell-bill to pay I might be able to afford to get a pre-configged ATA from you guys and do the whole kit ;)
I want to support FPL.

Sounds good Bloodsong! Also - If you have an impossibly difficult time getting your telephone bill from the provider you can always provide the Account number and Customer number of your current account.

FPL will give you one once you have told them you want to port your number.

You have to call them first http://www.freephoneline.ca/contactUs

The LOA form is only sent out once the porting fee is paid (and configuration file as well if not already purchased)
The Letter Of Authorization will be emailed to you and you will be given instructions and information about the entire porting process from the agent at that time.
