Incoming/outgoing Calls problems
I am using an FPL configured ATA Grandstream 286 and a D Link DIR655 router. Had it now for several months and everything has been working reasonably well . I am using a combination of Uniden cordless and other desktop phones, total of five.
However, for the last two weeks or so, several problems have been creeping up :
• Whenever I get a call and I answer, I can’t hear the caller but the caller can’t hear me, this will happen in about 75% of the time. Subsequent calls may or may not come through.
• When I call someone, after I dial and hear the beep… beep… beep, my phone will go dead. If I try again it may go through or I may have the same problem again.
Not sure if there would be any relations but I previously opened a similar problem that I still have but was never resolved: http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3166
Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Thanks for the help,
Pierre

Re: Incoming/outgoing Calls problems
I am not a fan of your router. Actually I hate it. I think there might be a firmware update to make the router more SIP VOIP friendly.
As for a more hassle free temporary fix, power down your router, modem, and ATA. Wait a minute. Power up the modem, wait a minute, power up the router, wait another minute, power on the ATA. That should do for a while until the router goes brain dead again.

Re: Incoming/outgoing Calls problems
Thanks for your response bridonca, your suggestion does make a lot of sense and will do it tomorrow when the rest of my clan is off the router.
As far as updating the firmware on my 2 to 3 year old router, I’m not really sure on how to proceed on this. Is this something I can do myself or do I need to buy another router? How do I find the current firmware version?

by log in your router
why don't you plug your ATA direct to your modem

Do you have the ATA connected at the same time as the desktop application is running? Our network only allows you to be logged in one way at a time.(ex: ATA connected at home will become disconnected if you log into a desktop app from a pc either at home or another location)

Actually I don’t use a modem, my wireless Internet provider has installed a dish in a tower beside my house and my router is connected directly to that dish. That dish, and some other comm. equipment , are used as an access point for other internet users in my area and also feed a second dish in the same tower that is used to feed other access points in other areas away from my house.
My four port router has one desktops and the FPL ATA device connected directly to it and there are also two wireless laptops working from that same router.

All I have connected to FPL is my ATA device. I do not have any FPL applications on any of my computers.

Re: Incoming/outgoing Calls problems
Perform this from a WIRED connection to the router. Do not do this from any wireless connectionPierre wrote:Thanks for your response bridonca, your suggestion does make a lot of sense and will do it tomorrow when the rest of my clan is off the router.

http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.0.1
One of those addresses will give you the administrative login area to your router. Log in, go to the advanced tab area, and find firmware update. This page will give you a browse button to upload the firmware to the device. Default login is either admin/admin or admin/blank password.
In a second tab/browser window, go to http://dlink.ca/products/?pid=DIR-655&tab=3 and go to the Revision of your router (look on the bottom - if it doesn't say revision B, just go to the first one). Then go to the firmware area, read the page, download the firmware to your computer (desktop or some place you'll remember).
Now go back to your router's Administration page, hit browse, find the file, and hit update firmware. Let the router update and reboot (around 2-3 minutes)
