I have tried to port a number from a Burnaby, BC exchange (604-484-). The CSR @ FPL told me it was able to be ported but when paid the fee and send the LOA along with a current bill from Vonage the port was denied. My billing address on the current bill is Surrey, BC but the number is in Burnaby, in the email I received it was stated that "Unfortunately we are not able to port in Surrey BC..." but the number is not in Surrey!
Calling for phone support is a wast of time and there has been no reply to my emails. Does anyone know what exchanges can be ported to FPL?

Change your Vonage address info to your friend's in Burnaby, create an updated phone bill then try again.
Sometimes the process is as if being proceeded by robots than humans, you have to change yourself instead of change a program fixed in a "robot's" brain.

Burnaby is part of the Metro-Vancouver LCA, and therefore you should be able to port no problem. Same with Surrey (although, technically, it is NOT Surrey but rather Whalley/Newton/Cloverdale (and part of Langley and Fort Langley too for good measure).KenArcher wrote:I have tried to port a number from a Burnaby, BC exchange (604-484-). I would suggest that you try again, as it should be able to happen. I know for certain that with Number Portability, landlines have been "ported" (or more correctly MOVED) -- in my building in Whalley, there is a Telus-landline customer that has a 604-255 (East Vancouver) # assigned.
If you continue to have issues, I would suggest PM'ing Steve on this forum as he seems to be able to make amazing things happen @ FPL!

Let us know how you make out!

Re: Porting a Burnaby, BC number
As numbers in Metro Vancouver are no longer geographically tied to where the billing address is (see previous post), this should not be a problem. The fact that there is no BURNABY nor SURREY rate centre may be part of the confusion -- remember that FPL is "back east" ... Making them aware that both Burnaby and Surrey are part of the Metro Vancouver LCA should help. FWIW, 484 is a Vancouver-based number if you go by ratecentre, as are almost ALL "Burnaby" numbers (the rest are New West).j8van wrote:Change your Vonage address info to your friend's in Burnaby, create an updated phone bill then try again.

Re: Porting a Burnaby, BC number
I emailed loa@freephoneline.ca and explained that it was in fact a Burnaby number and not a Surrey one. There was no reply so a few days later I called and was told the porting was actually in progress and that I would only have to pay the porting fee again as it had been refunded the first time around.
After the initial problems, this time the porting completed as usual. In fact I received several updates via email during the process.
I am actually quite impressed with the communication during the porting process this time.

Re: Porting a Burnaby, BC number
Happy to hear it ... as I stated, from what I am aware of, Surrey or Burnaby, it should not have mattered ... and in the end, I guess it is inconsequential anyways!KenArcher wrote:I emailed loa@freephoneline.ca and explained that it was in fact a Burnaby number and not a Surrey one. Feel free to drop by anytime with any other questions you may have, and I am sure either one of the forum regulars or an FPL staff member can take a kick at the problem or offer solutions!
