SIP config & Cell phone

Post by Ubershopper »

Hi,

I have tested the freephoneline app and have been satisfied with the service. I am ready to make the jump and replace our home service for good, but am unsure of the best route. I would like to use the service with out current analog phones (cordless set) as well as occasional use on my cell phone or my wife's using a SIP phone app.

1. If I purchase your SIP config file, can I use the contained information to program both my home ATA and the cellphone SIP app, or do I need to pay for separate config files for each device?
2. If the answer is that only one SIP config is required, then my next question is this: If I purchase your preprogrammed ATA, will you provide me with the config file free of charge so that I can program my cell SIP app? (ie, if you allow multiple devices, it would seem silly to require that I buy the SIP config from you and buy the ATA from someone else, if that makes sense?)

Thanks,

The config file is just a new username and password that will allow you to use any SIP client (ATA, SIP Phone, Mobile phone via voip, etc) to connect to FPL.

Only one device can connect to the FPL native system at once. If you register two devices at the same time (say your house ATA and your mobile) the last connected device will steal the registration away from the other one. There is no real way of knowing which device will ring when you get an incoming call either. It is therefore only really practical to connect one device at a time. There are ways to do this, but it requires the use of 3rd party software/websites.

You have to pay for the config file if you want to use your own SIP device.
If you buy their ATA it will come pre-configured.
If you buy your own device you will have to set it up yourself.

Using the ATA on a cordless phone is pretty easy. Assuming you buy the ATA from FPL, you should be able to plug it into your home network, then plug your cordless phone into the ATA. Some port forwarding may be needed in your router, but it is not always needed. I don't forward any ports here.
