Requested New Phone Number Areas

Post by warkior »

After having paid to have my number(s) ported to DellVoice, I was told that you couldn't port numbers to your system from the areas I had requested. I live a short way outside Vancouver and apparently numbers from my area cannot be ported to DellVoice yet. I've also heard from others who I initially recommended to DellVoice having similar problems. Therefore, I am requesting that when you expand your network, you include access to numbers in the following areas:

Victoria (the capital of BC)
Abbotsford (just outside Vancouver but a large population)
Chilliwack (also just outside Vancouver)

Also, you may want to mention somewhere on the site that you can't port numbers from any areas outside of the major cities. Apparently, even though Abbotsford is on the "Free Calling" list, you can't port numbers from there.

Thanks a bunch,
James

Assuming you are in Abby. The coverage to include Abby and Vic just happened recently, and I think that there is in the works a process to start to acquire phone numbers in more cities than Fongo currently does. These numbers are called DIDs (Direct Inward Dial), and from previous messages, Fongo does intend to expand it's footprint where it offers DID's, including potentially some USA cities.

However, Fibernetics, the parent company of Fongo, usually acquires entire exchanges (NPA-NXX's) rather than purchase DID's from other resellers; this is much more cost effective for them. This process, as I am sure you can understand, is not an easy one, as it is regulated by the Canadian Government. Even though Fibernetics or Fongo might already have something in progress does not mean that it will go LIVE in short order.

It is worth noting that most requests are passed along upstream and considered, so don't feel ignored even if you don't get a direct reply.

Chiliwack currently is not covered by free calls, although both Abbotsford and Hope are ... I hope (no pun) that this is an oversight on Fongo's part and that Chilliwack/Sardis/Rosedale/Yarrow are included in a future expansion (or correction, if they were meant to actually be included).

Also noteworthy is that although Victoria, Nanaimo and Kelowna PROPER are covered, their LCA's are not ... again, I would hope that this is addressed sooner rather than later.
