Message Waiting Indicator Not Working

Post by John12 »

Hello,

I'm using Linksys PAP2T as my ATA. I received several calls last week and I wasn't home to answer their calls. They had left voice messages on the Fongo mail sever. Before four weeks ago, my voice mail indicator on my wireless phone would blink to indicate there are at least one voice mail message in my Fongo's voice mailbox. Every since the upgrade that was made by Fongo three weeks ago, I haven't been receiving this voice mail notification. In other words, the voice mail indicator doesn't blink anymore when someone leaves a voice mail in my voice mailbox. I didn't change any settings for the ATA nor have I changed the wireless phone. How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks.

Hi John,
We are taking a look into possible MWI issues which might be affecting some customers.

Steve I spoke to someone in tech support today (questions for a friend who is interested in signing up), and decided to ask about the issue with the inidcator, the tech told me that some changes were made and that I may need to reboot my ATA to resolve it, so to anyone having an issue...

While on the topic,

Any idea why it takes 20+ minutes sometimes to indicate when you have a message waiting, or to remove the indicator once you have deleted any message? I know I had read some other comments regarding this in another thread, but no one could explain why, just wondering if you are able to shed any light on it?

We have been told in the past the reason for the long delay is the system that controls the MWI 'polls' each account every 20 minutes to see if a message is left or not. Therefore you won't see any change for up to 20 minutes until the next run is done. They have set it to do every 20 minutes to cut down on server load. Personally I can't see that this system could every work on a customer database as big as Fongo's, but this is what they decided on.

Maybe the changes you were told about will put another MWI system in place.

For real? This is the MWI system that they have in place? Who the HELL decided that they could "count to potato" with that? The answer is *CLEARLY* "firetruck"!

But honestly? Each account is polled? Every 20 mins? There just absolutely HAS to be a MUCH better solution than THAT!

The voice mail message indicator is working now. It takes around 2 hours for the Fongo's voice mail sever to send a signal to my cordless phone to tell it to flash the voice mail message indicator light. Before it only took around 30 minutes. Can Fongo do something to reduce this time?

After checking all of my new voice mails, the message indicator light doesn't turn off. I had checked and listened to my new voice mails four hours ago and the voice mail message indicator light is still flashing even though there are no new messages in my Fongo's voice mail message box. I would like the message indicator light to stop. How can I do this? I believe Fongo's mail severe is not sending a signal to its customers' telephones to get their message indicator lights to turn off.

The MWI system on Fongo is the biggest let down IMO. It's pointless in its current state, just turn it off or put a sticker over it until they change the system :D

They really need to change their mail server otherwise many of their customers will leave them for other VOIP providers.
