Speedtouch 780WL with SIP file?

Post by hanna256 »

Hello,

I purchased the SIP config file yesterday, and I have cable internet with a linksys router. I also have an Speedtouch 780WL laying around so I wanted to use it with the SIP file.

My setup will be as follow: Internet -> Cable Modem -> Linksys Router (DHCP) -> SpeedTouch with SIP file (NO DHCP) -> Regular Phone.

I configured the Speedtouch to enable telephony and I disabled the DSL interface. I can connect to the Internet from a PC connected directly to the SpeedTouch and I can see the speedtouch when connected to the LinkSys Router, however my telephone connection isn't working (The Speedtouch isn't registering).

I tried both the voip.freephoneline.ca and sip.fongo.com in the SIP URI and in the Expret Config, but it doesn't work. I am thinking the SpeedTouch is still trying to act as the main gateway and not "talking" with the linksys. The SpeedTouch is setup as "Voice Router".

What am I doing wrong (and can it be done)?

Thanks in advance

It is hard to tell exactly how you have connected the Speedtouch. Did you do the connectivity test on Page 64 0f the manual? The Speedtouch should connect through an ethernet port on the Linksys. (I expect that is what you have done. I have a feeling that you will have to have DHCP enabled on the Speedtouch if you want to use the Voip services because of the way the device is organised. Then I think you will need to forward the ports needed for Fongo voip from the Linksys to the IP that the Speedtouch gets from the Linksys router. Then things should work.
Thats my guess as to what you need to do..........I may not be correct. :)

Yes,I connected the Speedtouch to one of the Ethernet ports on the linksys. I will try what you suggested later today when I get home and see how it goes.

Hope this will help other people. I made it work by:

1- Factory reset the speedtouch
2- Followed the instruction on this website to make port 4 a "wan port": http://network.wiki.xs4all.nl/index.php ... SpeedTouch
3- Added my fongo credentials from the cfg file
3- Power cycled the speedtouch
4- Connected to the speedtouch port 4 to a LAN port on the linksys router

It registered and now I can use the phone line connected on the SpeedTouch modem... It is great.

Thanks for the help.

Thats good news and thanks for posting your successful configuration. What you did sounds about right. Routers with internal voip sometimes seem to give set up problems, especially some of the early models. I am glad to hear that yours works OK.
