I've changed ISP and it's not working

Post by ZeFish »

I have the "Can't connect to login server" message again ... but I wonder if it's the service in general or just because I changed ISP....

The service is working at present so it seems that the may be a configuration problem since you changed ISP.
You can go the the User control panel if you like and insert the user information about the service that you are using etc. it makes answer questions a bit easier.)

Nothing else changed, other than the ISP? Or did you change out a cable/adsl modem as well? Did the new ISP configure/change anything on install (ie ran a software package that supposedly got you online?) --- many of these make changes to firewall settings etc.

We will need a little more information to troubleshoot this for you! :)

I changed my modem also but nothing else... the router and my PAP2 is still the same with the same configuration. I just swap the cable and the ethernet cable from a modem to another and my internet came back online on my computer. The only thing that is not working is dellvoice :S

The modem might be assigned a different IP address on the network now as it is ahead of the router --- and therefore, you may have to redo some configuration W.R.T. IP addresses and ports ...

Double check that would be my first suggestion!

at first I didn't have to make any adjustment in my router and everything was working fine... Now that I'm with Distributel, it dosen't seems to work. I'm sure there are some distributel member online!

Anyway.. I forwarded everything and still no connection... I'm gonna call them tomorrow.

Hmmm, Distributel -- the competition to FPL. Not calling CONSPIRACY on this, but it does make one think.... ;-)

As you say, hopefully there will be some other forum members here that might be able to offer some insight!

When you changes provider you probably also changed modems...... did you? If you did, what modem did you have then and what modem do you have now. (I had the same problem some years ago when BellAliant forced a change in modems when changes were made in the version of DSL partly to support their TV offering. The firmware had modifications that made voip difficult until the configuration was changed to circumvent the problem.)

Dibsmft -- yes, there was a modem change, I asked that question. Firmware update, or just settings that he'll need to look at?

You could try connecting the PAP2 directly to the 6120 and see if it will work in that configuration.

I would not suggest that you upgrade you router at this time. Just in case, did you power cycle both the modem and the ATA when you connected the new modem?

I've tried it and the link light on the modem goes crazy blinking orange (wich says that some information goes) and the internet light on the PAP2 also goes crazy blinking blue but no line :(

When I say crazy, it means blink fast and never stop... kinda weird...
Anyway... waiting to call distributel if they can do something

Yippeeeeeee! Yes, that was it and not even slightly WEIRD :)

Normally I power cycle device (in the correct order) when I make significant changes and I tend to assume (in error) that everyone else does.

Sometimes it can be that simple -- because of the way that the IP's are assigned and the devices interact with each other. Depending on how your set up is setup to handle the DHCP (which appliance is assigning the IP's for the network), will impact the order in which the appliances are power-cycled/rebooted. Usually start upstream and work down, unless you have a weird setup ...

Glad it worked -- note down which order you did things in, so that you can reset it if it fails again ... and remember that if THAT pattern does not work, just swap things up a but!
