FPL almost never disconnects...

Post by SudoHacks »

Does anyone else find that the FPL PC app almost never disconnects when you hit the disconnect button? After the person at the other end hangs up, the call stops but the call time keeps ticking away no matter how many times you hit the disconnect button. When I try to call another number the app will crash and I have to restart... Overall it's an awesome service, but I find that really annoying... Wondering if there is a work around? Right now I'm using 3.0.3.0, can't really figure out if there is a newer version?

Known issue (I have posted about it before). This version is buggy (also has the incoming CID fail bug). If you check your call logs later, you will find that the call actually DOES terminate, the software just "freezes" and keeps on counting upwards on the timer and skipping all input on the screen. Only option is to use the CTRL-ALT-DEL method to popup and manually force a shutdown.

You will also notice that if you leave the softphone app window open for long periods of time (as in if you are expecting incoming phone calls) that it will lock up also, and also cause other java apps to "operate in non-traditional" ways. :(

No update is known at this time, although Steve has promised that there will be one (eventually). I do think that the DV software is more stable than the FPL app, but I enjoy the vm-email feature, and really have no desire to change over -- but I too would like a working app!

I was under the impression that the code is underneath a SKIN, so I don't know how hard it would be to pull the code out of the DV app and give us an updated and working FPL app ... but that is beyond my pay-grade!

Short answer -- no work around, no update. Just force the shutdown, reload and call again! :/

<sigh> yeah that's kinda what I was figuring. A minor annoyance for free calls I guess. Thanks for the info!

Yes, but still annoying nonetheless. Means it is coded VERY poorly. Certainly hope that they have that on their bug-fix list, and that they actually do something about it, rather than just sitting idlely by like they have on the incoming caller-ID problem .... :-(

Frustration level is VERY high on my end with the lack of bug-fix support for their OWN branded softphone; sort of feel like it is the middle-finger being given by FPL.
