Hi:
My phone displays New voice mail.
Can I set the voice mail msg can be sent to my email OR can I disable the voice msg service of freephoneline and use my voice machine instead?
There are settings you can change to use your own voice machine:
- On FPL side, there is a setting to let you set after # times of rings, forward to voice mail;
- on your voice machine side, there is a similar setting;
- set the # in FPL to be bigger than the one in your voice machine, so your voice msg will always go to your voice machine.
Caveat, if you're actively in a call the FPL voicemail will still pick up the message for you, and if you have set voicemail forward/copy to e-mail you will still easilly get your messages.
Forward, deletes the e-mail from your FreePhoneLine voicemail inbox and sends it to the e-mail address specified.
Copy, sends a copy to the e-mail specified but leaves the original message in your Freephoneline Inbox intact.
You can check your messages by pressing *98 from your Freephoneline phone.
You can check your messages remotely by pressing * during the recorded message and entering your pin, which appears to be the last 4 digits of your phone number by default, but can be set in your account options on freephoneline.ca
FPL's Voice message service is a great one. I too at the beginning preferred using my VM but soon found out it was just a question of habit.
The other thing is that FPL is a free service and gets a couple of cents for every termination call. If you have your own answering device that means FPL will not get the termination and the cnts they would have gotten by their system answering it.
I have no doubt FPL is here to stay but every bit of revenues they get assures that and helps them expand and bring new features we all ask for.

Actually a tape/digital memory recording device which answers the call and records it locally at home connected to your ATA still acts as a normal termination same as if you had answered the phone. (Simply the device is picking up the hook instead of you.)
So FPL does still receive the termination for this.
