faxing with SPA3102

I am able to fax perfectly fine using voip.ms, and about a year ago, I used to be able to send the occasional fax using freephoneline. I find I can't anymore.

I am port forwarding UDP ports 5060-6061and 10,000-20,0000 from my Asus RT-N66U (Dark Knight) router to the SPA3102 ata device.
STUN is not enabled.

Using g711u codec.

I'm using a Canon Pixma MP830 printer/fax machine. I have the baud rate set to 9600 and ECM on.

Basically what happens is that the Canon Pixma MP830 dials out, but transmission is never successful. After failing with FPL, I then simply switch to using a voip.ms gateway, and faxing works fine without changing any settings.

I am aware that faxing is not officially supported on FPL, but some of you claim to be able to fax out using FPL without issues.

Any suggestions?

Hmm, I'm not sure why FPL told me to forward all these ports. I should only need to forward one SIP port (the one on my Line 1 tab) and the RTP port range (on my SIP tab), right?

Well, to answer my own question, the answer appears to be yes. I am no longer port forwarding over 10,000 UDP ports, and I'm not using UDP port 5060 anymore either.

But that doesn't solve this fax problem.

Some research into the SPA3102 shows that it support T.38 (Fax over IP). Have you tried enabling thing feature? In fact, the user manual (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_i ... NC-WEB.pdf) has a section on using the device with a fax machine on Page 55. You've probably been through this document. There is some troubleshooting ideas on Page 56.

Have you tried lowering the baudrate? Maybe it can't negotiate at 9,600 baud.

I think "FAX Enable T38" is enabled by default. At least, it is for me.

I've tried lower rates. The thing is FPL worked fine for me about a year ago for faxing and at higher baud rates than 9600. Also, I have no issues with voip.ms at 33600.
I'll try testing some more when I get some free time.
