How to transfer FPL number to DellVoice/Fongo?

Post by bbabe »

I've been having problems with the FPL softphone v3.0.3.0 (there is audio silence by up to 8 seconds after I answer the call. Once the audio finally connects, it's fine).

So I thought I'd try installing the Dell Voice application on my laptop and was required to register. I used my FPL number in the contact number field on the registration form, but was told that an FPL number could not be used for this field. I used the FPL number as I had hoped it would somehow realize that I'm already a registered FPL user and don't want to be assigned a new phone number.

[Note: this 8 second audio delay is happening with the DV softphone app as well.]

I couldn't seem to find a work around to this, so now I've been assigned this new number.

My question is: how do I get my original FPL number to be used in this Dell Voice softphone? I don't want a new number as all my contacts have my FPL number and I don't understand why this service, which is associated with FPL, won't allow me to keep my original FPL number.

Or am I missing some setting somewhere that would allow me to do this? I didn't see anything listed under my account settings on the fpl website.

I realize I can forward my FPL number to this new DV number, but I would like my outbound calls made with DV to show my original FPL number.

Please advise how to get both applications using the same number. Thanks!

The long and short of it is that you can't just swap it over.

It seems that FPL and DellVoice are essentially operated by different people, so although they have the same parent they are not the same child. You will have to think of the two companies like Telus and Bell. The only way you are going to be able to use your FPL number on DellVoice is to port the number in, and that is going to cost you 25$ +TAX.

Fongo powers calling solutions for many different brands, freephoneline (being our own brand) and Dell Voice (being a Dell partnership) are separate brands and systems on our end. At this time we do not have a method for customers to hop between brands with one account - each account is tied to the brand it's signed up under. We are hoping in the future to have agreements in place to make this easier.

Edit: I see Jake beat me to it :)

Thanks for the clarification! Might be an idea to add this info to the FPL site or under the DV sections in this forum so subscribers understand what's going on.

Any idea about why I'm experiencing this 8 second delay? It happens with both FPL and DV softphone. The call begins, but neither myself nor the person on the other end can hear anything for the first few seconds.

This is particularly challenging when calling automated services which require you to hear the options and press the appropriate number key. By the time I can hear anything, the first two options have gone by and no idea what they were.

I am accessing the service from Ireland, and have for the past 2 years, but only started experiencing this problem within the past few months. The audio was always instantaneous before.

Just to be sure. Does FPL and Dell Voice are sharing servers or is all the infrastructure different?
