I just got an android phone and wanted to seek peoples recommendations on how to set it up with freephoneline. First a few parameter: 1) I have fpl and do NOT want to switch to dell voice. 2) I have an ATA device setup with SIP at home. 3) For the cell phone I just want to use it with fpl when I am traveling - so that I can get the calls and make call via fpl when I am away from home.
My idea is to get a generic sip app on the cell phone. What I wonder is can I have the sip set up on the cell and on the ata at the same time - will calls ring on both?
Also, does anyone else have other setups they would like to share?

In general I don't think you are going to get what you want. IE you can't have the cell and home phone registered at the same time. You can only register one device at a time, unless you use a third party software or site.jester wrote:I just got an android phone and wanted to seek peoples recommendations on how to set it up with freephoneline. Your Android phone might have a native SIP client on it. Take a look around in the menus or Google for someone else who has set it up on a phone like yours.
I think if I were you, I would set up a new account with DellVoice (I know you said you didn't want to move over to DV, so use this as an additional number) then in your FPL account set it up to ring your FPL line and your DV line at the same time.
What this will give you is when someone calls your FPL number, both your FPL home phone and your DV cell will ring. The only downside is when you call out it will be with your DV number and not your FPL number.
If you want to get a little more involved, then look at a 3rd party site like SipSorcery or pbxes. With a site like that you can register your FPL account there, then connect your ATA and Cell to them. This way both your ATA and Cell will ring and you can call out via either on your FPL number.

Re: Android app recommendation
The problem that you have is due to the perfectly undrstandable restrictions that Fongo has to impose on how their system works not on what you can do with SIP/voip. I live in Newfoundland and Fongo only has very limited coverage here and no local DIDs. I have had to use a DID from another service and that rings on every phone logged into the account which I think is what you want and the cost is only about $12 per year for the DID. Calling out from this provider is not free like Fongo but not very expensive. Another possible solution is to use an ATA that can transfer calls from one voip line to another (I am fairly sure that the PAP2 cannot do this) but I have found that I can seem to safely connect my Grandstream 286 to my SPA3102(line port) and it behaves as if the GS286 was a PSTN line but whether this really works I am not sure (perhaps another user has tried this)
because it should allow transfer a call to the GS282 another voip line.

Re: Android app recommendation
You asked for the name of a decent android app for SIP. I can recommend CSipSimple. Realize that in order for it to work, you must purchase the config file from Fongo for $50. Also, most Canadian cell phone companies seem to block VOIP calls on their data plans. But it will work fine with a wifi connection.
