Hi,
I recently have been using Dell Voice on my android phone.
For 2 years, I have been thinking about switching my home phone to Voip. I currently still have a phone number with Telus(20 dollars a month). I live in Canada.
I researched a bit on Linksys/Cisco PAP2T, and I know there are a few other phone adapter out there. I am pretty good with router configuration and port forwarding.
What I want to accomplish.
1. Setup Voip phone adapter at home with my dell voice/fongo.
2. Port my Telus number to the voip phone if possible.
I don't understand the SIP stuff much, I just know there is a one time fee for some kind of configuration setting. Maybe someone here can guide me a bit. Thanks.

Re: Which Phone Adapter for New User
Your best bet is going to be buying the adapter which we sell (Grandstream HT-286). When you buy our adapter you get our support for it (phone, email and forum support) and a one year warranty. Our adapter is also very versatile and is known to work much better "out of the box" than some store bought adapters will. Our ATA also ships pre-configured and hand tested so it's ready to go as soon as it arrives!

Fongo will charge you a one time fee of 50$ to get the config file, which basically lets you use their system on anything you can configure it with (ATA, softphone, PBX, etc). To port in your number it will cost you 25$. The ATA will cost about another 50$. These are all one time fees, and of course are plus TAX. Porting in your number also governed by the fact of if they are able to port your number in your area or not. They can't port some areas just yet.
If you do not understand VOIP too much (be careful, it can become addictive!) then I would suggest to buy the Grandstream ATA from Fongo (DV). This way it will come fully programmed and all you should need to do in theory is plug it in.
Looking on DellVoices page http://www.dellvoice.ca/extras they have their ATA listed up for 99.99$ which includes the 50$ for the config file. If what you want is what you have outlined above, then if I were you I would call into DV (the freephone number is on that page) and tell them you would like to buy a configured ATA and port in your number. It should cost you about 125$ +TAX. Buying the ATA from Fongo has the advantage that they will support you if you have problems with anything. If you buy the ATA somewhere else, they will be helpful - but tell you that they can't offer complete support. Having said that there are lots of people here that will help you
A word of warning about porting in your number. When you port your number it will replace the DellVoice number for the account you port the number into. So if you want to keep the number you have been using on your phone, set up a new account and then port the number into the new account.

Please, do not be in any rush to port your number over. Pay the $100 for the ATA and SIP configuration file, and use the phone a lot. Once you get comfortable with the setup, then ask Fongo to port your old number over.

Although we clearly prefer getting every step done, i have to agree. You may find the you really do prefer our service and port over immediately. At the same time, you may find it tricky to understand and decide not to do it. The good news is, once you have your account, you are not obligated to do everything at once. Instead, get to try and test, then decide what steps you would like to take if any.bridonca wrote:Please, do not be in any rush to port your number over. That's what I did. In fact, I forward my Bell line to my Fongo # until I was working. Then I requested to port the #. Incoming calls still come to your phone while you're still having access to both services
