Not getting incoming calls (again)

Post by voip »

Greetings!

I have been a paid sub since June 2009. There were some growing pains initially, but the service has been flawless since about Spring 2010. Until now that is!

I do not use my FPL line that much, so don't know when exactly the issue starts. About 3 weeks ago, I realized I couldn't get incoming calls (contacts sent us an email saying it's RNA. Yes, not even VM was picking up). I tested from 2 different mobiles (2 different providers that is), same issue.

Calls to customer service was pretty useless (try saving the password again in your ATA). Just as quickly the issue started, it was fixed. Until today, when I'm getting the same issue.

A few notes:

1. Previous known issue was on a weekend, same as today's!
2. All attempts at both times resulted in no calls being logged in the portal (similar to no call activity).
3. I also have a Dell Voice account. Test calls in from that result in VM on the FPL line (without the line ringing).
4. I have a 28MB down cable internet, with sufficient bandwidth. Router is just over a year old, with no port blocking/forwarding.

For the time being, I've forwarded my FPL line to my mobile (but that defeats the purpose of having a line at the location I have it at). One of my contacts has this setup, and they're able to get all their calls (when I have had issues with incoming calls both times).

Anyone else having similar issues?

Your router is to blame. For various reasons, the router lost to ability on where to forward the correct RTP ports. That is why it is wise to manually forward ports from the router to the ATA, and not have the router guess where to route traffic.

You have given too liitle information for us to give you help other than the guess that bridonca has already given. I sounds like you have a two line ATA (PAP2?) and use both lines and if that is the case you need to configure it and your router very carefully to get if to operate reliably. While the ATA will work on both line with little configuration the problems that you are observing seem to fit exactly what would be expected (and I have observed elswhere) where neither router nor ATA are configured.
