Hi All,
I have been using Dell Voice now since it was released in Canada an love it. That said, I would like to confirm my plan before I do a hard cutover of my Rogers Home Phone to Dell Voice. I have read through the forums and find it hard to find a posts or even support pages with what should be done to do a cutover.
Prep
1. Purchase an ATA device (most likely a Grandstream HT286) - 30-60$
2. Purchase a one time VoIP/SIP unlock key from Dell Voice - 50$
3. Port existing (416) number to Dell Voice.
Setup
1. Plug in Grandstream device to Power outlet
2. Plug Lan Port to Router
3. Plug RJ11 into FXS port
4. Configure Grandsteam based on the forum documentation and Insert VoIP key
5. Test
If I connect the RJ11 in my basement to the ATA which runs and is split multiple times around the home to different phone jacks, I will be able to simple keep my existing 3 handsets(basement, mainfloor, 2nd floor) as they are today. They are simple Vtech DECT 6.0 Cordless Phones.
Thanks all that can help out.

You have everything pretty much spot on. I swapped a friend from Rogers over to FPL and it was nice and easy to get his house jacks working by just taking the plug out of the Rogers box and plugging it in the ATA like you say. Everything else is as you say. You might have to forward ports in your router, but a lot of times it is just plug and play.
If you buy the ATA from FONGO it will come pre configured and has the added bonus of coming with support. If you bring your own ATA to the party then they won't officially offer support on it. That's not a big deal as there is lots of people here that can usually help.
On your prep #3, there is a 25$ charge for porting your number. I would advise to get everything up and running first, then port in your number once you are happy things are working. As you say you are using DV now, if you want to continue using that number after you port in your number, you will want to set up a new account to buy the config file with. Once you port in a number it replace the number that DV gives you.
In your setup, I would plug things in first before powering up, so move your #1 to #3.
