VoiceMail Acting Very Weird

Post by udbas »

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing weird Voice-mail issues lately. I understand its an ongoing challenge with the service but needles to say its quite annoying.

Over the last month to two there has been a significant delay in receiving the signal that I have a voice mail. The issue then changed and it was showing I always had voice-mail (despite me clearing the ATA flag that there is none a few minutes or sometimes a few hours later it would show that there is voice mail).

While all this was going on the email delivery of VMM was not affected. I would receive an email as soon as I would get a VMM.

Today I received an email that I have a new VMM but the message was 3 days old (after I deleted all VMM on the portal).

I was wondering if there are other people affected or if for some reason (in my opinion very unlikely) I'm the only one.

I was also wondering if the staff is aware of these issues and what their plan of action is?

There were similar issues in the past (prior to fongo label), the server was restarted and the issue was resolved.

Thank you!

Jon

The delay of the visual MWI notification is a known issue and we are in the midst of testing a fix (I was personally doing some testing yesterday on this fix too). We're hoping it's very close to being ready to roll out.

The email delay is unusual - email notifications are usually as close to instant an email can be. Email does have two parties involved though - there's us sending the message, and your email provider receiving and processing it. If the email provider was overloaded or backed up on server spam processing then it could have an impact on how fast the message travelled through their system and hit your inbox. I'd say to watch for this to happen another time before digging into it any deeper.

Sort of a follow-on to what Steve posted, regarding the email, I would recommend to check the email message carefully. Not sure which option it would be in your email client/software, but something along the lines of "show raw message" "show extended info" "show headers" ...
check the dates/times of ALL the servers handling your message to see where the delay was ... it could be the MAIN that converts it, or any of the remailers along the way, or even your email provider too. The "header" info can shed a lot of light on this -- beware of differing time zones tho when doing your checking!! :-)

A little add on i would also like to give, once you receive the email with your message attached, i would strongly suggest adding it to your trusted addresses to make they are never sent to your spam folder.

Hi Steve, Hardy and Mike! Thank you for responding. I'm glad to hear the issue is being looked into and I look forward to the resolution :).

With regards to the email issue I'm hoping its a "one off" and will treat it as such. I've taken a look at the headers (thank you for the suggestion Hardy) and it would appear it got stuck on porta-54FXFN1.295.ca for a couple of days. Obviously since I have no access to the mail server logs there's no way of determining what caused the delay.

@ Mike, thank you for the suggestion, the mailer had been added to my "safe sender" list already.

I'm including the info below (for entertainment purposes only :)).

Cheers,

Jon

Yeah, that happened to me the other day as well.

Message was left on the weekend. Received email notification. Wednesday night, received the exact same email with attachment. Strange. I just logged in to my voicemail and sure enough, there were 2 copies of the exact same voicemail. Strange.

Hi Folks,

We are experiencing the same odd behavior.

Our symptoms are not related to email purely because we are not using that function.

As far as the Voice Message System, here are our symptoms:
1) Voice messages can always be left without any issues.
2) The message indicator works the first time, then tends to stay on.
3) We listen to the message and delelte it via the Phone Menu.
4) A few days later, the message will reappear as a new message.
5) There have been instances were we listen to and delete a message for a second time, only to have it return a few days later.
6) I have tried deleting messages from the Webpage, these have returned as well.

Does anyone know the exact config settings for proper VMI operations ?
Is the system being restored every few days via a batch process ?
That would explain the behavior.

Thanks
Derek

Hello everyone,

The issue is very persistent. Yesterday (June 6) I received a duplicate email notification for VMM received originally on June 4. Today (June 7)I received duplicate email notification for VMM received on June 5. All are still on the web portal (I did not delete the original VMM). For some reason the messages are being duplicated on the portal and as a result the 2nd email is sent with the same message.

My VMM indicator however has not been active since I started this post.

We are now considering this issue to be resolved. You should no longer be receiving duplicates of any messages in your inbox (unless someone is pulling a prank on you and keeps calling back leaving the exact same message  )

If this does keep happening, please let us know right away by replying to this thread here

And thank you to everyone who responded by sending me their numbers about this. It made it much easier to find the root of the problem with good examples in hand.

As such, i am going to lock this thread so as to continue in a single line.
