Existing number replaces DV number?

Existing number replaces DV number?

If I transfer my existing phone number to my DV account, does it replace my DV phone number? Or, do I now have two phone numbers, my existing (landline) phone number and the phone number DV gave me when I registered?

I would actually prefer to have both numbers as my landline phone number is in one area code and my DV phone number is in another area code. This way, it's a local call to me in both area codes.

You ported your number IN to DellVoice? Is that correct? If that is the case, yes, your OLD PORTED-IN number has REPLACED your previous DV account number, and that DV number IS NO LONGER VALID. You can always sign up for a NEW DV account, but you will not get the same number that you had before.

In what area are you located, also, if I may ask. Regardless of areacode, if you are in a region where there are multiple area codes, as long as the ratecentres for the two numbers are the same, the area code is not important when determining whether the call is local or toll.

If you have already ported your number, then read TheHardy's reply. If not - yes, you will replace your DV number you have now when you port your number in. If you have already paid for the config file this might not help much, but if you haven't all you need to do is sign up for a new account and then port your number in to the new account. This way you will keep your existing DV number, and your ported number. In the DV setting for the account you have now, simply forward the calls to your newly ported number. This way no matter which number is called it 'should' call you house phone. Some people have reported this is not always 100%, but should work most of the time. I personally have never had a call now forwarded on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't ported my landline yet, but I did try the above suggestion with a new DV account.

When I try to set the Follow Me Phone Number of one DV account to the phone number of another DV account (they are in different area codes), I get the following error message: "This number is already used as a FollowMe number by someone else."

Is there a way to get this to work?

A number can only be used once for followme. What this means is you can only use the number on one account and not, for example, forward 3 accounts to the same number.

Is it possible that you used this number when you had your old accounts? It could still be in their system as a number that has already had an account forwarded to it. If you don't have access to any account that might have this number set up for followme, then call into support and get them to sort it out. They should be able to hook it out of whatever account it is in. They should be able to help one way or another.

You know Jake, that is an interesting point, and would answer some of the previous issues that other users have had with receiving that error message in the FME module.

Might be worth getting a definitive answer from a FONGO mod, as to "What happens to a deleted account? Is the FME information retained in the system even after the account becomes inaccessible to the user?"

And if that IS the case, I think we may have helped CS sort out some of these issues ... ;-)

When an account is deleted all of the respective information that was contained within is also removed - including follow-me numbers. More often than not when issues come up with the "number already in use" error we find that the user had an old account, which they had forgotten about, which had that same follow me number. Occasionally it can be caused by system error too which we will investigate and repair.

This might help...

If you have FollowMe-ed a number in your FPL account, that number won't be FollowMe-able in your DV account -- FPL & DV are sharing the same FollowMe data.

To go one step further and cover it all, ALL Fongo-powered VOIP services share the same main master database ... so Budphone, Kokanee-phone, Z-phone and all the other specialty branded ones are included in the same catch-all umbrella ...
