Need help for some problems

Post by Mallox »

Hi everyone, I'm new with FPL, just had my Acanac VoIP number transfert here.
But I encounter some problems. There is my configuration: FPL with SPA-3102 5.2.13(GW002) ATA (witch is about the same config that a PAP2T) and TEW-639GR V1.0R router.

When I was with Acanac VoIP everything was working fine. I made some change in the configuration of the ATA so it work with FPL:
SIP Username: 1********** (FPL pnhone number w 1)
SIP Password: ******** (FPL Password)
Inbound/Outbound Proxy: voip.freephoneline.ca
Registration Expires: 180
Use Preferred Codec: G711U as first, G729a as second and Use Pref Codec Only: NO
RTP Packet Size: 0.020
Ring Tone Frequency: 52
Ring Tone Voltage: 90
Recommended Linksys Dial String: (911|[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|1xxxxxxxxxx|011xxxxxxxxxxxx.|98*|[6-7]x*xxxxxxxxxxx.)
MWI Serv and VMWI Serv: YES

1. The first problem is with the voice mail waiting indicator. If I configure with (as it was with my Acanac VoIP service):
MWI Serv: YES
VMWI Serv: YES
User 1 | Supplementary Service Settings | Message Waiting: NO
The light indicator on my phone never goes on when I have a new voice mail (and I wait for 12h)

Now if I change to (as I see on some post on this forum):
MWI Serv: YES
VMWI Serv: YES
User 1 | Supplementary Service Settings | Message Waiting: YES
Now the light never goes out when theres no new voice mail (and this event after 24h)

So what is the problem?

2. When I try to activate the "follow me" service into my FPL setup it does ring to my phone any more. It go directly to me "follow me #".
I've try different setting:
With ring mode: Sequencial (+always CF) and one "follow me #" after 3 ring
And also with ring mode : Simultaneous and one "follow me #"
And it's always the same thing, it doesn't ring to my phone but directly to my follow me #.

What I want is to ring to my phone, and if I don't answer after 3 rings to ring simultaneously to me phone and my "follow me #".
How do I do that?

3. All my call are excellent quality. I call many different area code and 1-800 number and every call had a excellent quality on both side. But when I try to call FPL technical services to have some help about my issues. I heard them well, but they could barely hear me. And after 15 seconds they just hang up on me both times I call them...

I would appreciate some help here.

thanks
Mallox

1) MWI indicator issues are an ongoing problem with the VM platform itself and will likely not be resolved by anything you can do. It is one of those things that you will unfortunately have to live with on Fongo until such a time as Fongo manages to fix it's platform. I would not hold my breath on this (although there is word that something is in the works) as it has been a known issue for quite some time now ...

2) FM not working correctly ....do you have it set to "ALWAYS" or "NOT AVAILABLE" ??? There have been a few issues in the past with the platform not accepting input correctly. Tinker a bit more there, and even change out your FM # to something different, save, then go back and put in your other # again, re-save.
I cannot say for certain what steps need to be taken, but after some troubleshooting on my own installation here, I have things working the way that I needed them to ... of course, I am using the softphone, not an ATA, but that should not make a difference in the FM module, as it does not seem to discriminate. The only reason that I can think of that it would go to your FM# and not be ringing your FPL/DV # first (as you want) would be that your ATA has temporarily lost connection? Either that, or somehow it is "eating" rings ... up it to 6 and see if you then manage to get 3 rings out of it before it trips the forward ... ???

3) Report those bad connections (and times/dates) if you have them to Mike or Steve for further investigation. One would think that above all, calls into CS would get a decent connection .... lol

Thanks for the reply "TheHardy".

Do you, or anyone, know the official setting for the message waiting indicator? So, when FPL will fix the issu it will work with my phone.
MWI Serv: ???
VMWI Serv: ???
User 1 | Supplementary Service Settings | Message Waiting: ???
and any other setting I need to setup

For my "follow me" issue I try a couple things and let you know.
And "TheHardy" I did set it up at always as I use a ATA and that it is always connected. And no my ATA didn't lost connection and it didn't "eat" rings as it directly rang on my cell.

An other question I forgot to ask.
When I subscribe to FPL they send me the info for the SIP setting with proxy "sip.fongo.com"
But when I logon to my account under SIP setting then the proxy is "voip.freephoneline.ca"
So witch one is the right one??

Thanks

Forward always may not ring your ATA as you are intending it to -- go back and read the FAQ ... you will probably want the other setting.

As for the SIP settings -- best to let a FONGO rep answer that or even better yet, seeing that is is sort of an urgent question, give a call to the customer service phone number rather than waiting around for an answer -- they should be able to tell you straight out which is the correct setting ... it is my suspicion that they both forward directly to the same server anyways, so it could very well be a moot point as to which one you use, but I would get the official word on that!

Since you had set your follow me to always Call Forward, it does not matter how many rings you set...it will always forward the call without ringing your phone connected to the ATA. If you want your ATA phone to ring, you must set follow me to "Call Forward When Unavailble". :)

SIP proxy

Post by TheHardy »

voip.freephoneline.ca resolved to 208.65.240.165
sip.fongo.com resolved to 208.65.240.165

208.65.240.165 resolved to host-208-65-240-165.static.295.ca

Just a little detective work ...

So to me, it would appear that either SIP proxy gets you to exactly the same place.

I was going to let him discover that on his own, as it seemed that he was so confident about his settings --- --- you spoil the learning surprise and the "Ah-Haaaa!" moment. But a valuable point to make -- RTFM -- be sure you know how the settings work and what they do before you say that it is broken...

Chopsticks are meant to poke the user in the eyes while operating them, are the not?

I know I should not have been that "obtuse", but still ... there are times to play the RTFM card, IMNSHO. 8-)
