Hi there!
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I was registering on Dell voice. I received my confirmation via email and was about to select my city of choice, but I noticed that Victoria, BC was not listed from the numbers to choose from. It is clearly listed as a supported city in BC as per http://www.dellvoice.ca/cityListing so I was wondering if this is a temporary situation due to technical problems or is the service no longer available in Victoria, BC.
Thank you!

Victoria BC is a city to which there is FREE CALLING. The list of cities in which phone numbers is offered is NOT the same. On the old FPL site, there was a link to which you could go to see in which cities local numbers were currently available - sadly, this is not present (or at least I cannot find it) on DV.
You are correct though, in the reg process, VIC numbers are NOT available. Unfortunately, they never have been, and there is currently no ETA.
Your choices for a BC number are Vancouver, Richmond, New Westminster, North Vancouver and West Vancouver -- all essentially the same.
You CAN take a number from there, and FORWARD it to a Victoria # ... but I do not think this quite accomplishes what you want.
There has been talk an promise of a coming expansion in which new DID's will be offered, and hopefully Victoria will be among them.
Suggestion in the meantime is to take a Vancouver-ish #, and use it, then get another number if/when Victoria becomes available.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Hardy. There are always expansions coming, but unfortunately it is difficult to know which cities will be included in the next one until it happens.

However
This may be true, Dom, but I do know that the OLD FPL site did have a link that showed potential users where they could get numbers based out of BEFORE they were ankle-deep in the registration -- and I think that is a valid point to bring forward to the website/marketting team (unless of course, THEY are deliberately trying to be vague about it...)FONGO_dom wrote:Couldn't have said it better myself, Hardy. That said, on the expansion front, I know that "you can neither confirm nor deny", but is there any valid shortlist of cities where Fongo has AMBITIONS to expand DID coverage to -- other than just "EXPAND" and "SOON" and "IN THE WORKS" ???
Something along the lines of "The FONGO team has identified cities A B C D E F G & H as having a demand for DID numbers and are working towards securing them for a future update. Please watch for further information."

Re: Victoria, BC not listed in Cities Number when Registerin
Sometimes the replies we get from official staff members makes it sound like they all get into the office in the morning and say "OK, what are we going to do today?"
I appreciate that that Fongo staff would not want to put their jobs on the line by saying things they are not authorized to say, but why the big secrecy? It can't be for competition reasons that we can't be told which areas that will be expanded, because let's face it, Fongo doesn't really have any competitors on the same level. So I can only think that the staff at Fongo just really don't know. If there are people at Fongo that do know and have the seniority to tease this sort of information , why are they not here giving loyal forum members a glimmer of hope that they will at last be able to get a local number from Fongo?
No disrespect to the excellent staff we have here right now, I know fully well how it is to work for a large company that tell you what you can and can't say - but it does make you come across as a company that just doesn't know what it will be doing from day to day. Maybe this is just a result of being the child of Fibernetics in the fact that you can only walk where they walk first. Even then the Mum and Dad usually tells the kids where they will be going on holiday that year.
To be fair I shouldn't have even written this reply, as knowing what areas will come next doesn't really effect me. I am lucky in as much as my calling areas are pretty much covered. I do use another company for international calls as they are much cheaper. But for people that have waited for years for news that they will be able to use Fongo to it's fullest replies saying 'wait and see what happens next' must be very frustrating. At the moment they are told something might be happening and they have no idea if it will effect them. If I were in their situation I would rather be told "we are rolling out these areas next" then they would know OK, it's not me this time, maybe next time.

A laugh and some seriousness.
Mike: Nice -- can I get the SuperSecret Decoder ring to go with that so I can figure out what A-H are?? I give you a high grade for effort and comic relief, however ....
Jake (and Fongo in general): You are not wrong, and I am glad that someone OTHER than me said it. I *THINK* the same alot, but because I have been previously labelled a s***-disturber, I try not to make these points too often, or belittle/bemoan Fongo too much.
It would be very nice to hold them accountable, and put the feet to the fire as it were.
I personally think you made a few good points. Some of the stuff that goes on here makes it really look MICKEY MOUSE - we're just missing the ears, but I am sure MIKE has some in his desk that he can pass out for everyone!!

But seriously, Jake, the rest of it is bang on the money. How long with seemingly empty promises? I mean for-goodess-sake, the whole "busted proprietary softphone" thing with both FPL and DV makes the operation seem cartoonish and a joke at times. It is not like trying to land a man back on the moon, or re-invent the wheel after all.
I hope that someone high up at Fongo takes the post you made to Heart Jake, as I don't think you made it lightly, nor out of spite, nor in a malicious manner -- you have simply put to words the feelings of a lot of us here!!
+1 (and more) from me at least!!
