unable to connect...

Post by sskiealive »

Hi to all reading this,

I've downloaded the dell voice desk top along with updating java. However, dellvoice will not conncet to the internet. I have tried re-installing it, still no connection. :(

The only option available with the software is to test the connection. When this was done, I can see the modem light flashing as if the test was connecting, but when it's done, it states there is no conncetion to the internet, along with a message saying that port 3100 (if I recall it correctly) should be available.

I'm using an older HP PC with a pentium 4 processor, it runs at 3 gigs. My OS is windows XP and is up to date.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What kind of network are you connecting to? What kind of router are you using and have you tried forwarding the specified port(?) to your PC? I don't normally use MS WIndows but with Windows Vista it requested permission to allow the required ports to be used and I think Windows XP should have done the same for you.

Thanks for the reply dibsmft.

I don't have a net work, meaning, having two or more PC's sharing information amoung themselves. However, I am using a DSL set up. My PC is directly connected to the modem, which is a Siemens 567 gateway, and it is connected to the phone jack. I can acess the internet and all of its features.

As far as forwarding a port goes, I do not understand that process. The installation did not request to use any port. It only asked if I wanted to change the disk drive and folders regarding to where the installation will take place. (C drive, programs folder) After that, it installed itself. When completed, I registered and recieved a phone number.

When I open Dell Voice, I get the key pad window, and on top of the phone pad, it states that there is "no connection to server". The only working folder is the "settings tab", and the only service option is the "test conncetion", as previously mentioned.

Still stumped...

It has been quite some time, and I still haven't recieved any support. :( I would like to use the phone, but I'm still unable to connect to the server.

My long range plan was to get a fongo home phone, but if I cannot "test out" what the fongo voip system is like - via the dell phone, which is provided by fongo, then, what is the point of going any further!

I have no experience with your router but I suspect that you need to set a static IP for the computer running DellVoice and forward the required ports to the computer. However, if you dont fancy that you can try using UPNP which should be able to look after the IP/ports problem that you have. UPNP is probably "off" in your router so you will have to turn it on. There is information here
http://www.zultrax.com/forward-port/upnp.htm
If that works then you are ok but if not you will have to do the prt forwarding.

Most of the information that you require seems to be covered in this link

Good to hear it! The ATA should be much more pleasant to use than the MS Windows version.
