Phantom incoming calls not in call records
I emailed tech support via the online form but have not received any sort of response.
Has anyone gotten calls that their ATA shows as coming from freephoneline but not show up in the freephoneline records.
My mom has FPL and at least once a month gets unknown calls, or in the case 2 nights ago, ###xxxxxxxxxx# calls (where x appears to be a real 10 digit phone number with random numbers before and after back to back (10-15 times) either during the middle of the night, or during the day while she is at work and comes home to 10+ missed calls recorded on the caller ID.
The ATA we're using is an Obi110 and we have no such problem with the second line attached to voip.ms and having a DID as well. The online FPL call records don't show any calls during the times the ATA says its receiving a call from SP1 (FPL)
I'm assuming FPL probably doesn't keep detailed logs after the fact and maybe can't do anything now, although if someone could PM me and give me a hand that would be great.
Have any other users experienced any issues like this?

Note down the #'s, the best dates and times that you can match to it, and send it via PM to MIKE or STEVE from the forums for further investigation ...

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
What are the chances you have port 5060 forwarded from your router to your Obi?

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
The NAT table in the router doesn't show that its open, also I don't have the port forwarded manually, the Obi is using some other port externally and just 5060 internallytbrummell wrote:What are the chances you have port 5060 forwarded from your router to your Obi?

It could be that someone is sending SIP calls to anything@your-ip, which might ring your phones.
Can you try and change the IP and see if you still get the calls?

Jake and I are getting at the same thing. But generally you would see something like this when 5060 is opened to the I'net. It is possible that the Obi is using UPnP to open the port though.Jake wrote:It could be that someone is sending SIP calls to anything@your-ip, which might ring your phones.

In your Obi settings is there anything that relates to "Only accept calls from registered proxies/gateways"? The PAP2 has a setting like this which makes the ATA only accept calls from gateways to which it is registered. This may help you out.

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
There is a setting for authorized IP addresses; does anyone know which IPs calls can come from? Aside from 208.65.240.165...

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
In checking my asterisk set up that I use, I only see calls initiate from 208.65.240.165 in some testing, but I don't know for sure

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
Do you normally use Asterisk, or just for testing?
Either way, the server that Fongo uses is sip.fongo.com or voip.freephoneline.ca - both resolve to the 208.65.240.165 you see in your logs. So that would be a safe bet to add in as the authorized IP.
One thing to keep in mind is if your calls stop all of a sudden, it could be that Fongo has changed the server IP, but just remember you have this in place and check what IP they are using. Having said that, it shouldn't change.

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
Personally I use Asterisk for my set up, and haven't experienced any wierd calls in the past 6 years as I disable anonymous SIP calls to my asterisk system. My mom has been using VOIP for years now as well, only recently switched to FPL for her local service and ported her number over. She randomly gets calls, maybe once a month she complains to me about them, they only bother her in the middle of the night obviously. I will try with allowing the only IP I can find for FPL and see if that blocks anything.Jake wrote:Do you normally use Asterisk, or just for testing?

Please let us know if this stops the annoying non-logged calls to your mom ... (and I promise that it is NOT me making them!!!

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
Hello Everyone ... I started a post with this same issue. I did some further digging and found this post. I have resorted to stop port forward on 5060, in hope to stop this issue for the time being. My mother and I have a Grandstream HT286, which does not have the function to allow only certain IP address. We do though run a router that runs DD-WRT and it does have the capability to only allow certain IP addresses through.
If there is a FONGO representative that can answer this ... "does the IP address of voip.freephoneline.ca ever change from 208.65.240.165. This is the IP address I plan to use in the router to weed out all the "hacker" ... hopefully.
Can anyone suggest a Grandstream ATA that has the capability to only accept certain IP address or only accept certain calls with the correct number of telephone digits (ie. 123-456-7890)?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Phantom incoming calls not in call records
Not a Fongo rep, but let me take a shot at this: "Not usually, but it is best to use the NAMED address rather than the resolved IP address just in case Fongo needs to make changes behind the scenes".PainCourt wrote:does the IP address of voip.freephoneline.ca ever change from 208.65.240.165. That said, it would take some time for any DNS changes made to propogate through the internet, so Fongo would have to INTERNALLY forward that address anyawys, or risk having a large chunk of their users hit a dead IP if they ever changed it.
Technicalities aside, seeing as you seem to know what you are doing, I do not think that it would be too hard for you to ACT POSITIVELY on your assumption that that IP is more or less fixed, do what you are planning to do with your setup, and then if it breaks, at least you know where to go back to and affect the change of setting it back to it's named resolution, rather than it's IP resolution.
Hard thing to do, as it is only North America (*and a few other places) that has a fixed 10D numbering string. Several countries do not even have a FIXED string (regardless of length) because of the manner in which they chose to implement their systems. That said, it is NOT uncommon for CID systems to show either 10D or 11D results ... my old CDMA and some GSM cell phones alternated between displaying the leading 1 or not, and the new one that I have from work adds a third option, sometimes displaying the intl "+" before SOME incoming calls.PainCourt wrote: Can anyone suggest a Grandstream ATA that has the capability to only accept certain IP address or only accept certain calls with the correct number of telephone digits (ie. 123-456-7890)?
Overseas calls placed via VOIP sometimes even display as 0001npanxxline when coming into a CID equipped line -- as a matter of fact, I have seen on someone else's caller ID, my calls from Surrey placed on a Vancouver FPL # show up in that manner (and they did not answer, as they did not recognize the number) -- on that occassion, a call 10 mins later, showed up as 1npanxxline on their caller ID and they did answer (this was a week ago)
