Hi,

I am a new user to DellVoice and got a free Dell voice Calgary number 587-287-XXXX. When people try to call this number from Calgary landlines or cell phone, the phone company states it is a long distance number some of the times. Can someone help?

Yes --- covered in detail in several other threads.

Basically, the ISSUE lies with THEIR provider (the calling #, not yours). The person with the phone that is calling you needs to dial into 6-1-1 (or their customer service) and report that the local Calgary # (587-287) is being MISIDENTIFIED as a non-local call. They will need to file a trouble ticket with "RATES & ROUTING" and have the issue resolved. It is a huge pain in the ass, but what is happening is that THEIR carriers are NOT updating their tariff/RATES&ROUTING tables in a timely fashion. 587-287 is a relatively NEW Calgary exchange/prefix. The industry notification of new exchanges goes out AT LEAST 30 days prior to the exchange being placed into service, so there really is no excuse for THEM not to put it in in a timely fashion. They have just missed it, or been too lazy to do so.

The fault is ENTIRELY at the end of the CARRIER that those people are placing the call from, and is NOT a FONGO issue at all. Sorry.
