busy tone when making outgoing calls

Post by haa416 »

I have a problem with FPL service where I am not able to make successful phone calls because of
frequent false busy tone. I keep trying to call the same number for at least 3 times before the call is successful
and hear the ringing tone and the call is established with no issue.

This false busy tone happens frequently for all outgoing calls, it also happens when friends call me, they complain that
my FPL phone gives busy tone most of the time.

I am not sure where is the problem, is it FPL service or the problem is in my router/ATA configuration??
I have linksys ATA Linksys/SPA2102-5.2.10 and it was working perfect with no issues for almost 1.5 years then
it started to have this busy tone problem since five months ago.
I appreciate very much any help or feedback.

Thanks

A few questions --- is the cadence (Speed) of the busy tone the slow "regular landline" busy tone, or is it more rapid/faster?

The slow busy tone is an actual busy signal from the terminating end, the rapid busy is a network congestion issue usually at the origin carrier.

I am wondering if it is one of these "network busy" issues at the Fongo side of things ....

May I also be so bold as to ask the first 6-digits of the numbers that you are trying to call, which generates the busy signals?

I am NOT a Fongo tech, but perhaps if there is a pattern ... I am thinking that perhaps it is for numbers which terminate OFF Fongo-served switches, and maybe there is a congestion problem?

A few troubleshooting type questions ... :-)

If one of the mods pops in, they may ask your Fongo # so that they can check your call logs to see what error messages they may hold and try to track down what is happening on a network level...

It is most likely a configuration problem with your ATAs. Try running STUN (stun.ekiga.net or any other of your choice), "NAT mapping enable" and "NAT keep alive enable". Depending on the problem that you have is may help.
