Your MJ is just a proprietary ATA. There is no way to configure it, short of hacking it.

As MJ has a much larger "free" calling area than Fongo, I do not see your purpose in using Fongo over MJ.

If you want to use a FONGO service with a config file and over an ATA, you will need to get another ATA to use for that.

My point precisely. Unless you are ending your MJ contact ... but as I say, it is a proprietary adapter, and will not work with anything but MJ.

There is no debate the the PAID MJ service has a much more inclusive free calling area than Fongo offerings.

Hopefully this will change once Fongo hits its stride with expansion (but please please please solidify your service/software before you expand!!!!)

I use Google Voice with my expired Magic Jack device. You can make free calls to Canada an the US with Google Voice, which is nice. A bit of a downside / upside is that you only get a US number from Google Voice.

You need a US Google Voice account, which is a bit tricky for a non American to register for, but once you get it, you can use it anywhere in the world. Once you do that, you download a slick piece of software called GVJack. http://www.pcphonesoft.com/ Sadly, it costs around $20, but it is money well spent. In any case, you can do a free try before you buy option to give you an good idea what you will be getting.

MJ I believe is 20+10(cad #) per year to continue. It does have free US/CA-wide calling but my LD to CA/US does not add up to anywhere near that. I'm mostly making local and international calls.

I also prefer Fongo's ability to port in numbers. MJ currently do not appear to port CAD numbers.

Basically it comes down to

Would you like to keep your CA number? Fongo
Do you make lot of calls to US or non-fongo covered area ($30+)? MJ
Would you like to support a Canadian company? Fongo

MJ rehash: FYI, there is movement on them being able to port in Cdn #'s, but it is slow and painful. If you look at the companies that have been chewing up large blocks of new npa-nxx's (and also which ones "own" the npa-nxx's that MJ assigns from in Cda) you should get a good idea of where/what I am talking about ...

No official word on MJ having this yet, but it is going on behind the scenes. Rumour has it that the initial port in cost will be $50 USD and then a YEARLY fee on top of that (not sure if that would replace the yearly fee for the Cdn # in the first place or be in addition to it, but that seems wrong on a ported IN number, don't you think????). Rumour at this point, as I say.

Fongo has local Canada number can use with ATA device

Google Voice has US number and it can use with ATA device receive and make out going call for long distance

This solution will fix you up
